I was just thinking that for us first time first trimesters, the whole world of the bump - and understanding what an actual bump should feel like or look like as apposed to just a bit of bloating from too many 'cravings'. And to stop us all carefully caressing what might turn out to be our bladders I thought it might be an idea to ask the more experienced amoungest us what we should be looking out for.
I know everyone is different but sharing your personal experiences of the different stages you experienced might help others
Sorry hun, I can't help you.. I didn't have a "proper" bump first time round, it just looked like I'd got a bit fat I was quite gutted actually. I could feel the top of my uterus from about the start of the 2nd trimester though.. It's supposed to be just above your pubic bone at 12 weeks, but I'm tall so I think it must take a bit longer to reach that point for me because I can't feel it yet (or hear the heartbeat yet ) & this is my second baby.
I am pregnant with my third baby and I am one of those unfortunate types who looks about six months pregnant at 6 weeks. It just shoots outs. By the time I'm at 40 weeks it is truly a very frightening look. As for what to look out for, well I think you'll notice it more when you're sitting down early on, It sticks out over your trousers but its more solid than 'blubber'.
In early stages (first tri) your "bump" is bloat and excess weight. Not alot of it is baby. You should try to go to the bathroom regularly because holding it constantly will make you more prone to incontinence (later in life).
By second tri your uterus is about the size of a grapefruite and rapidly grows from then on. This is when the real baby bump begins. By real I mean, physically your uterus growing an that is the bump that you will see.
When a bump starts is totally dependant on the person, people who have very strong core muscles and are in good shape will take longer... People who have had a baby already or are in not so great shape muscle wise will look bigger, the muscle are looser.
And yes, your eating habits affect you body too, which is why you shouldnt get too crazy with your eating, unless you dont mind having to work off all the extra weight after the baby...
Remember that if you do not drink enough fluids you will have a fake hunger feeling. So make sure you drink constantly, your baby needs all the fluids you can give.
I'm very self conscious about being 'fat' but my stomach is quite rounded and looks like a bump if I'm honest. I met some friends today who I haven't seen in awhile and they all said it's a definite bump. Maybe they were just being nice though? My tummy is more solid than usual.
I just look filled out i had fab six pack (yes i know slightly sick, and not to most peoples taste but i seem to have a body that gets toned easily) i now just look wider, no bump at all just wider!! Soooo not amused, i would prefer to have a bump than this.
