bleeding - positive story

Hi I haven't posted before but I just went through a scary early bleeding experience and I promised myself that I would post my story if the outcome was positive to give hope to others experiencing the same. I was BFP on April 12th which was totally unexpected because I am 37 and even though I was not on birth on control I was not trying to conceive. I was very happy to be BFP but I stressed majorly at first because my partner and I are not married and I was worried about facing our parents, our employers, needing a bigger place, etc. The evening of April 28th I saw a small light brownish pink stain in my underwear. The morning of the 29th while getting ready for work I started spotting a little. After getting off the subway (I live in New York City), I realized I was truly bleeding, not as much as period, but definitely more than spotting. Bright red blood too. Fortunately my OBGYN is close to my office, so I immediately called and they told me to come in as soon as I can. They did an ultrasound and we saw the gestational sac which was estimated to be about 5weeks, consistent with my LMP but too early for a heartbeat. They took blood and told me to stay positive, that 25% of women bleed and that 50% of women go on to have normal pregnancies. They also suggested that I take a couple of days off of work and go on "pelvic" rest. I told my employers that I was having a medical emergency and needed to go home. I still continued to bleed red the rest of the day, again not as much as period but enough to make a small mark in a pad and to discolor the water when I went to the bathroom.
The next day I called for the blood work results and they said my HCG was 2000 which was good but my progesterone was 9 which was borderline. They prescribed Crinone 8% to take at night and to rest. They said to schedule a follow up appointment in two weeks. Needless to say it was a very difficult and stressful couple of weeks. The bleeding continued for about 2-3 more days and after I started the Crinone I felt cramping which didn't help to assure me. I ended up taking 4 days in total off of work and had to tell my immediate bosses what was going on which actually was helpful because they were all very supportive. After the bleeding stopped I went back to work but now I was experiencing major pregnancy symptoms for the first time and didn't know whether it was because of Crinone or that I was still pregnant. I couldn't believe that a tiny little embryo could survive the amount of bleeding I had. I also did a really stupid thing and took another HPT which came out lighter than when I was BFP so I made myself swear not to do that again.
Finally nearly two weeks passed (I actually called and asked for an earlier appointment because the stress was killing me) and my partner and I went for the followup scan. To our extreme relief, there was a little sac with a yolk sac and fetal pole and strong bumping HEARTBEAT! We were estimated to be 6weeks5days and my HCG and progesterone came back great this time. Needless to say we are overjoyed. My partner was a little unhappy b/c he used the doctor's scale and found he gained 15 pounds but he acknowledged it was better to add weight than lose the baby!
I will be taking Crinone until the 12th week. One positive thing from the scare is I am not worrying about the silly stuff like what everyone will think and am able to fully enjoy my pregnancy. I'm lucky that my partner and close friends were very supportive and just hope that the rest of the pregnancy will be drama-free. I also hope that this story can help someone else going through a similar experience. Good luck to all the expecting mommies out there!

P.S. Sorry for the long post but when I was stressing out reading forums details really helped.

Thanks so much for this. I Started with a small amount of brown discharge on Monday, which I am still getting now. Occasionally when I wipe there is blood. I went to see my doctor yesterday and I am booked in for an early pregnancy scan on Monday morning. The blood seems to come when I do a poo (so sorry if TMI!) other than that its just brown. I really hope everything will be ok, good luck with your pregnancy.

Thanks for the post. I am so glad everything is ok and fingers crossed it continues that way as well for you. This is my very 1st pg and, everytime I go to the loo for a wee I keep expecting to wipe and find blood!!!! I have no pain apart from if I forget and stretch a little too much I get a slight strain in my groin but, it goes as quickly as it comes. Think I am just worrying too much when I don't have any of the bad symtoms that need worrying over if ykwim? I can't wait for the nxt 7wks to hurry up and go so I can have my 1st scan and begin to relax.

Glad you had a positive outcome. I had bleeding that varied from very heavy to light spotting everyday from 5 wks to 12wks and my pregnancy is now going well. I'm now 13wks. wishing you lots of luck.
