Question

Help..Down Syndrome/Cystic Fibrosis Test

Hey all....Anyone getting or already have had the Down Syndrome and Cystic Fibrosis test done yet?

Its done between 10-13wks...

When they do an ultrasound and check the size of the baby's neck and then do bloodwork on the mother..Im only 24 yrs old the doc says Im pretty young n may not need it because im not 35 but I want to be safe..

Also I found out at my last appt I have lumps on both of my breast and I really really want to breastfeed..They have to do an ultrasound on my breasts..Im afraid but ACTING brave..

I have these appts right next to each other like monday then tuesday. I don't know if two ultrasounds in a row is good for me or the baby..Ultrasounds never been proven to be safe or nonsafe..

Any thoughts please??Thanks for your time and patience Im so clueless right now??

The chance of having a baby with downsyndrome DOES increase signficantly after age 35, but it is important to remember that it is because the baby has an extra chromosone, not how old you were when you conceieved. So although its rare, it is still entirely possible to have a baby with Downs in your 20s. You should still get the test just in case. Sorry Danny darling, not trying to scare you, I'm getting every test in the book done if its offered to me just because I'm paranoid and I know people who have had babies with things wrong like that. I'm sure your bean is fine, but it wouldn't hurt just to have it checked!

I paid to have the NT scan for Downs. I think you need to think about what you'd do if you came back 'high risk'. I decided I didnt want to wait till my 16 week bloods incase there was a problem. I wanted to have all options open to me and as long as possible to decide what, if anything, I would do.

I had the NT scan and bloods and they came back 1:5800 which is classed as negative so I didnt have anything else to think about thank goodness. I'll be 34 when I give birth.

You are very young and the chances are very slim but its up to you. I'd say if you get it offered as standard (ie for free) then bite their arms off!!!

I've had bloods taken to find out about downs syndrome. I had them at 15 weeks and I have to wait 2 weeks til I get a reply but if i dont hear anything then it's good news the midwife said. I'm only 18.

My Midwife Told Me About The Triple Test, Which Is To See If You Are High or Low At Risk Of Having A Downs Syndrome Baby. But I Said No To It, Basically Because It Doesnt Tell You 100% If Your Baby IS Going Too Be. So I'm Just Taking The Risk And I'll See When It's Born. She Also Mentioned An Amniotic Fluid Test, I Say Hooo No To That Too, Lol. Because It Can Lead Too Misscariage, And I Don't Like The Sound Of An Injection In My Womb, Thank You Please.
