As far as I know no meats are safe unless they are well done (I'm a medium rare person myself usually )

yeh, i'm also usually medium if a little under that and when we were on hols the other week, every other night was a steakhouse where DH was having pate's and then medium steak and i was sitting there sobbing (not really but you know what i mean) and had to have my steaks well done. I'm afraid anything under is apparantly just not safe for bubs.

Yup sorry, well done is the only way, and undercooked meat means you are risking Toxoplasmosis:

Quote:
Toxoplasmosis is caused by a parasite called toxoplasma gondii. This is found in different forms in raw meat, within cats who eat raw meat and their faeces. Toxoplasmosis infection is common in both men and women outside of pregnancy, however it is infection during pregnancy that is of most concern as it can lead to infection in the unborn infant: congenital toxoplasmosis.

Toxoplasmosis infection may lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or survival with growth problems, blindness, water on the brain (hydrocephalus), brain damage, epilepsy, or deafness. This often develops after birth, so even normally born infants of women with known infection should be kept under observation for some time.

Be sure to only eat meat which has been cooked right through. Wash your hands, cooking utensils and food surfaces after preparing raw meat and wash all the soil from fruit and vegetables before eating.
[source= womens-health.co.uk]
Sorry all that sounds a bit scarey really, I think in early pregnancy the risk of passing the infection on to the baby is only about 15% but increases to 70% by the 3rd trimester.

I love a nice medium rare steak with a glass of red wine - weirdly it was the last meal I had before I found out I was pregnant.

I ate medium when I was pregnant and had no problems, but it's whatever you see fit to do obviously.

i'm a medium person myself, but since finding out, even DH has been ordering his stuff well-done (in case i want a bite ). just weigh the benefits and the risks and choose the steak as you like! hope you have a lovely dinner either way!

I have my steaks Medium Well as i hate the charcoal taste but hate the raw bit in the middle. I haven't had one since getting my BFP but i would imagine that Medium Well would be ok as it is cooked throughout, just not charcoal.
