A lot of woman are nervous about home births in fact I have only had miscarriages and my consultant wouldn't agree to let me have one & many others convince & inform people of the worse case scenario. Just because our opinions and information we heard is different from others it doesn' mean you should call at people with the likes of ' you silly woman'. As always if your looking up information one page one book will say its black another will say its white as my OH said once if your after one answer you will always find it somewhere

I spoke about this with OH and he wants me to go to hospital...and I think I am inclined to agree. Just think I would personally feel better 'if' anything when wrong - because Im not a five minute drive from he hopsital it's more like half an hour!

Although reading about home birth, I'm warming to the idea... guess i jsut need to research into all my options

sorry ryder but it is true laying on your back is a bad bad position for labour! laying on your back is unnatural it comes from a drug they used to give women in the 50s to help with birth that made women go a bit out of it so they used to strap them down on tables untill they had their baby...i think it was called mothers sleep or something along those line.

think logicaly if you squat/stand up gravity is on your side!

each to their own its your birth and you should do it your way whats good for one may not be good for another, home birth is just the same and a hospital birth lets face it we all get the same result dont we.

if you go into hosp and demand all the drugs in the world it dont make you less of a women/mum than someone that stays and home coughs the baby out with no pain relief.

home birth is just another choice for labour and birth in hospital you are limited and they are very quick to get you in and out. in my experience they are very quick to push drugs although i made it clear i didnt want them.

the only thing i really disagree with is elective c-sect when theres no medical reason i find this really wrong and weird. but thats just my point of veiw

if you chose to go into hospital just make sure you have a plan and have someone there who is prepared to back you up all the way cause you get to a point in labour when you hit a brick wall and beg for everything going. (i begged for an epi and told everyone i was going to die!) you really need someone there who is going to say hey remember what we talked about do you really want this? etc..

I wasn't questioning where your information came from I was saying information is basically so conflicting what we are fed & read from different sources. My MW breifly ran over the cons and asked me to ask my consultant if I could. Personally I never understood why my chemical pregnancies & ectopic stood in the road of a home birth 'incase'.

& thanks

AMEN.... i agree.... its your own birth so if you want to lay down, squat, do it in water or hang from the ceiling then so be it!

Hi all,

I'm new but just wanted to add my tuppenceworth! I'll be having a caesarean section again unfortunately, but given the choice I'd have loved to try a home birth :-)

Id like to have a home birth in a birthing pool that for me would be more relaxing then in hospital as i dont like hospitals much. Plus i did read that your likely to get to know the midwife who will be with you when you give birth at home rather then in a hospital when they tend to be on shifts (i read it in the pregnancy book they give you when booking in). xx

To be honest, this is my first and I'm petrified of the labour bit, most of my family agree that I'll probably be asking them for drugs lol. But you know, it should be up to us what we choose to do in the labour and unfortunately, there is like wobbles said a lot of different conflicting advice out there. I don't think I'd like to be lay on my back in that much pain for hours, I'd probably want to walk around or at least be on all fours for some time, I find this is usually a position I revert to when in any sort of pain anyways, so I'd probably want to.

I think any mother who's taken the time to come on forums like this to research into pregnancy would have thought long and hard into what kind of birth they want, and explored their options. The opinion that that decision would be taken lightly bemuses me. People would choose to go without any pain relief without thinking about it first? Especially considering what the complications could be? I think the people who do choose this would think long and hard before deciding this for definite.

Like someone said, the human race has been giving birth for many thousands of years without really the aid of pain killers or hospitals in the forms that we have them now. The mother usually prevails... Power to the natural births...

I however, am just a wimp ahahah!

Its a very individual choice tbh only you can decide how you feel you will be happiest giving birth.

After a serious car accident I had when I was 20 weeks PG my MW suggested I give water birth a try because I had a cracked tail bone and both my legs were badly injured (had to learn to walk again, still using a stick!!!) she thought it would be easier (hmmmm bad choice of words) for me.

After looking into it I decided against it, as I didnt like the idea of catching the baby in the water then passing it to the MW, infact the thought terrified me ...what if I dropped the baby back in the water etc and being all alone in the pool.... I didnt fancy it.

So we opted to have a natural birth in the hospital like Id had with my prevoius 2, it was a very different labour and a lot longer but I felt a lot safer. Near the end of my labour the gyny who had been there a while (which 2 me was a bad sign) said baby and me were in distress and I was to get an emergency c-section, but ended up giving birth myself with only gas and air (long story but very proud of myself!!) so I was very happy to be in hospital surrounded by people and things that helped me and baby.
