hey, Im confused as to how long folic acid should be taken for? I stopped at 12 and a bit weeks, but wonder if it should be throughout the pregnancy?

could anyone clear it up please????

I took it up to 13 weeks as that's what the M/W Said ..

My midwife told me to take it for the first 12 weeks and then I stopped.

Im taking a centrum maternal vitamin, and im taking it for the whole pregnancy and while breasfeeding afterwards. There are lots of other vitamins pregnant women need throughout the pregnancy. Especially iron and calcium.

The main point with folic acid is ideally you should take it 3months before becomming pregnant and for 1st trimester.

I was confussed with this too i took it right up till my 16week M/W appointment and she said i was only ment to take it till 12 weeks lol xxx

My mw has said 12 weeks

I take a prenatal vitamin with folic acid in it, still do.

I started taking mine when I found out I was pregnant, and decided I might as well finish the packet, so thats into about week 14 when it will run out
