Question

Temp work advice please!

I'm thinking of leaving my job as for a lot of reasons it's become not really possible for me to do (long story I won't bore you with). I've found out today I'll be entitled to receive maternity allowance so I'm thinking of just doing some temporary work until I can claim the allowance.
So my dilemma is - if I go to an agency to try and find temp work should I tell them I'm pregnant? I know they're not supposed to discriminate against me but don't want to make it more difficult for myself to find work. Has anyone else done temping work while pregnant? If so did you tell them?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone.

I'm doing temp work. Started working for the agency right before I got pregnant (like 2 weeks prior). I did end up telling them around 9 weeks because they kept finding me full time positions and I had to turn them down. I kind of regret doing it now because it does seem to affect the amount of work I've gotten. I still work 2-3 days a week or so, but there are weeks where I don't work at all. So if you can get away with not telling them for now I wouldn't. I've also heard that it's good to sign on with more than one agency, that way if one agency doesn't find you work one day, maybe the other will. Good luck

Ooh, how weird. I'm in the same position, I'm looking for temp work too.

Hmm....I may have made a mistake though, I just emailed my old boss (who I worked for for 7 years and although I left 2 years ago, I wish I hadn't now) telling him I'm looking for temp work and that I'm pregnant.

Your situation is a little different though since you contacted an older boss.........the company I work for, I'd only been with a few weeks before falling PG. I'm sure it will be fine

I do want to tell them I'm pregnant as I'm an awful liar cos I don't like being dishonest. My OH thinks I'm silly if I tell them though as he thinks employers won't want to employ a pregnant person.

With temp work it's not so bad though because it's not like they are trying to hire you on full-time. The only reason I would change things is because I do feel that telling them has affected the number of jobs I've gotten called in to do. But that could just be my company. And like I said (at least here) you can always sign up with more than one agency!

Register with more than one ... tell one but not the other and see what happens!!

Then you'll know if you register with any other agencies in thr future

I going to have to look for temp work too, as I doubt I'll get a permanent job over the next 6 months. Not sure whether I'll tell the temp agency I'm pregnant until I start to show though.
