Scan at 6 weeks - no yolk sac??

Hi ladies,

i had my second early scan this morning and again all we saw was the gestional sac, no yolk sac & no fetal pole. The sac has grown and the midwife measured me at 5 weeks. I tried to explain it wasnt possible but all she kept saying was it was a waiting game. I asked for an internal but was refused as she felt we wouldnt see anything different. I am so worried by now we should have saw somthing in the sac and there us no way i am less after 62 cycles i know my body and as we only had sex once last month, it would be a miracle for our dates to be so far out. I'm so upset and worried i'm not too sure what to say or do, two weeks is a hell of a long time to wait. I just dont know what to do, anyone else not saw anything at 6 weeks and went on to a healthy pregnancy?? Xx

Hi hun, didnt want to read and run, firstly secondly, did you chart? Maybe we could see and work out when you ovulated. Just a thought

Hi hun - I just wanted to say that if the scan WASN'T internal, there is a very good chance that there IS a yolk sac and fetal pole, and for it not to show on an external scan.

For reassurance -

I thought I was 6 weeks when I had my early scan, but I was told there was just a gestational sac and I was more likely to be between 4-5 weeks. (I thought this was very unlikely, but didn't want to argue!) I went back 2 weeks later (being 6-7weeks according to the last scan) and saw a lovely little bean (with heatbeat) and was dated 8weeks 5days!

I know the 2 week wait is really horrible but try not to stress - especially if the sac has grown

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

One thing to remember is that the swimmers can stay a live for 5 days so although you only on 13th you may not have OVed until the 17t/18th and still managed to catch the egg. that would make the dates a bit closer to what the scan is showing, also if the egg implanted late that can delay things as well. Two weeks is going to seem like an age but i am sure everything will be fine in the end and this will be an interesting story to torment your child with later. We are all here for you in the mean time

I agree what every one else has said, she should have know that you have seen more in an internal scan and Im sure you see what your looking for.

as for low HCG levels that can be completely normal for some people as long as they are increasing!

good luck I think you will see a nice little bean in two weeks.

Oh and the same happened me in my fist scan I thought I was 7 weeks he said 6 weeks and to come back in two weeks as it was to early to date properly ! when I went back I could see a proper little bean and a heart beat but he still had me a few days out by my dates. not that it mattered then as all was ok !
