Anyone know about Uterine Fibroids

Hello

I had an early scan yesterday at 7wks 4days where I got to see my baby and heard the heartbeat and it was the most amazingly moving experience and i don't think you could ever get bored of hearing that sound.

Then the sonographer had a look around and said that I have a lower uterine fibroid which we will need to monitor. It may grow in size due to my hormones and due to its position could obstruct a natural birth.

I've done the worst thing ever and googled it this morning and now I'm terrified as it can cause miscarriage and pre-term birth. Most often than not a C Section. If it means my baby will be born healthy in 7mths time I'd take a C section anyday.

Just wondered if anyone knows anything about them or has experience of them before??

Thank you

Hi Beanhopes, I had an early scan and they saw one in me too. She said it was nothing to worry about and that it shouldn't affect the pregnancy (however, my uterus is split into 2 horns with the baby in one and the fibroid in the other). Try not to Google too much it'll drive you mad! At least they have seen it early and can monitor it.

Hi hun, both me and my SIL have these, SHe has one and I being greedy have 4, we both went overdue and I had mine naturally and SIL had a c-section (unrelated to the fibroids). Depends on the location of the fibroids and if they are inside the uterus, in the wall of the uterus or attached to the outside of the uterus. They can cause additional bleeding after birth so they keep an eye on that (although again neither me nor SIL experienced that). We were both told our babies could come early but they didn't as I said. Really they are very common and I wouldn't worry unduly at the moment. xxx

just to add i did have to have additional scans and they kept checking babies head towards the end (being the widest part!) to see if he could squeeze past the lower fibroid which he did so they then said then it was just as likely to be a vaginal birth as anyone else.

Thank you so much, I'd really like the option of a vaginal birth so I'll keep everything crossed.

p.s. your LO looks gorgeous. x

Thank you Eoz. I have looked at your journal and I can't believe how much you've been through already. Your LO is a fighter and it's amazing what they go through before they get out into the big world.

I wish you the very best for the rest of your pregnancy and hope that I have just a smidge of the courage and positivity you have.
