Any surefire constipation remedies?!

Hi all - not the nicest topic I know but one which probably affects a lot of pregnant girlies! I've been trying the orange juice, apricots, pears, increasing fluid intake etc. but still feeling like I'm not really going like I should. I'm looking quite bloated too! It's all glamour, don't you agree? Any top tips?

I'm second tri popping over for a few!
I had the same problem, and my midwife told me to drink a glass of Metamucil (it's a fiber supplement) It didn't taste bad either, as in comes in a bunch of flavors!
There are some constipation pills you can take while pregnant and you should ask your midwife for the list of them. Sometimes the natural tricks just don't cut it!

Hi I went to the dr this week because of constpation. She did a precautionary internal to make sure everything felt fine, which it did. Then she prescribed me lactulose and fibergel because of the pain it was causing.

I knew 100% it was constipation but she has booked me in for an early scan on Thursday to make sure it isn't anything else and she said she wouldnt be doing her job if i didn't have a scan. Within taking the medicine for 2 days everything has been fine.

So great result i get to see my baby early, yippee. I'm 7+2.
Hope this helps!

I know it's not nice but glycerin suppostries work an absolute treat (though I'm not sure that's the right word!) within 20 minutes at the most, everything's moving and back to normal. In my experience it doesn't matter what I eat but If I don't drink enough water/squash then I really know about it.

i agree with the gylcerin suppositries, they are not expensive, just ask for them (if you dare) at the pharmacy, normally a couple of pounds. Try and keep them in a long as possibble. It does really work for chronic constipation. Sometimes if its got to such a stage nothing else will work (I struggle with this even outside of pregnancy).

once this lot has shifted (sorry TMI) try to make sure you have weetabix or other cereal every morning - and get some prunes (they just taste like big raisins!!). Plus drink loads (this is the part i find difficult and I am a bit of a camel)

Thanks for all the advice! I'm not a stranger to glycerin suppositories as I'm a nurse but used to me administering them to others! Don't think I'm at that stage yet but will persevere with drinks, fruit etc. The thought of prunes makes me heave! But then lots of things are making me heave at the mo! Had my early scan yesterday so at least I know there's a baby there and an explanation for all these lovely symptoms! Seeing little beanie made them all worthwhile!
