I'm Currently Feeling: | there is a more detailed test for d/s that you do have to pay for, as you are young (you look it from your piccie!!) your chances of having a baby with d/s are reduced. so they offer a test on nhs that is not quite as accurate but as near as damn it is to swearing!* i think its in form of 2 blood tests taken at 12 and then about 16 weeks?
had my booking in today and just trying to relay what my m/w told me!
hope this makes sense darling*
best of luck* | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | had the nucheal scan as part of my dating scan today. They zoom in on the babys neck and take a measurement to work out the risk of downs. Blood taken too. All very simple if you choose to do it. My hospital offers everyone the nucheal scan free so sounds like yours does too. | | | | Status: Offline

| Hi , it really depends where you live as to weather you get the nuchal scan on the nhs. I also live in the south of england and got mine on the nhs. They check the amount of fluid at the back of the babies neck along with blood tests then give you an overall risk factor for downs syndrome. Mine was 1 in 25000, so pretty low! Im also only 25 so the younger you are the smaller risk there is.
If your mw mentioned it to you i would guess it would be done free. As for the scan make sure your bladder is full because it makes it easier to see baby in early pregnancy, Good luck xx | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Great that you have your appointment! Not sure how things work there but here for the nuchal scan they take measurements of the neck (standard to have it done unless you turn it down--which I did). | | | | Status: Online

I'm Currently Feeling: | I had to pay £190 for mine. They dont do them for free in my area until you are over 40 as you're not classes as a high risk. My friend in London who is 35 got hers on the NHS - post code lottery!!
My nuchal measurement was 1.9mm at 13+6 which she said was good. A few days later I got the full results (once the bloods came back) and my risk was 1 in 5800 for Downs and 1 in 50000 for Edward which is classed as a negative result.
