Full bladder question

This may seem like a very silly question...... but... how do you get a full bladder, ready for 12 wk scan without feeling like your going to wet yourself?? I keep worrying that when they push on my tummy I will just release it

Oh my you have no idea how hard it is lol I went for 12 week scan today, arrived early so had a bottle of water and a cup of hot choc in cafe about 45 mins before scan, by the time the scan came around I was bursting to the point it hurt a bit, so the lady at teh desk said I could go to the toilet and try and just let a bit out hehe so I did, went in for scan and it was really full and she was pressing down quite hard to get a look at my ovaries and she had to scan baby as high as near my belly button, so I went to the loo again and it was better.

My advice is, is doesnt need to be very full at all! I'd say take a bottle of water with you and about 20-30 mins before have a few swigs

Well they say drink a pint an hour before, but I know that my bladder is full 20 mins after a drink. So I'll be having my drink no more than half an hour before. I think I can just about hold it that long!

Just a question - why is it that you need a full bladder for the scan? Do the pics come out clearer or...??
My scan is next week. xx

drink a pint of water or juice one hour before your scan and then about a quarter of a pint 15 minutes before the scan and it isn't long enough to make you feel you need to wet yourself but is enough to fill your bladder =)

It's to push your uterus up from out of your pelvis

I'm pleased you asked as I wasn't sure either.

My scan is a week today. I had an early scan at 6wks (feels like a lifetime ago now!), and the pushing down on full bladder is really uncomfortable!! I couldn't wait to get to the loo afterwards!! I don't know what I'd do if they said 'just release a little' - I know I'd wee the lot out!!

you see them telling you a set amount is ridiculous. All our bladders are different. Certainly an hour before is tooo much. I tried and nearly peed myself haha. Honestly, i would just drink what your comfortable with and not wayyy before the scan because they're often behind schedule xx
