my friend ...

my friend is always saying that my dog and cat will get jealous when baby arrives. if she says it one more time!!!! ones is enough. i am not worried about that at all. my dog loves nothing more than kids, and i know he is excitingly waiting for baby to come. he is always happy when visitors come, and sad when they leave. he wants a big family lol. my cat is just not a jealous cat at all. usually hubby feeds the dog first and then forgets the cat. she just keeps on waiting there sitting pretty. even if he forgets for 1 hour. and the dog gets quiet more attention than her. and they are both just happy and best friends. and why does she think she knows my pets more than I

My mum has 2 dogs. When I was pregnant with DD, one of them wouldn't leave my side. She would always sit next to me with her paw on my belly, and stay by me if someone came round. Once DD came, she didn't bother. She still sits next to me, but not as often and she doesn't bother with DD. The other dog didn't bother with me throughout the pregnancy, but she loves DD and is always giving her kisses and watching over her. This god is a jealous bum though. She wont let dad sit anywhere near mum and gets jealous when DD is with mum, but she would never do anything to hurt DD or anyone. As for the cat. He couldn't care less. He'll walk past DD, glance at her and walk past with his head and tail held high!

A lot of animals don't really bother, they just become more protective

people say such silly things sometimes! pay not attention to it, pets react the way they are used to, so if you have pets that never see anyone but the household then obviously they will be wary at first with a new arrival but animals are social creatures so they wouldn't be jealous and as you've said your pets are already used to other people, they'll probably take to it really well

I'm sure your pets will be fine!! Noone knows them better than you

My dog is always by my side, but does seem to be following and watching me even more than normal if that's possible. She keeps trying to put her paw on my arm when I'm changing gear in the car!! She loves kids so I'm not concerned about her reaction to baby at all - she will love him/her!!!

It's possible they may become jealous, but really it depends on the individual pet, and no-one knows them better than you. I don't know why your friend keeps mentioning it, she has made her point, and you know your pets aren't like that, so she should drop it. Maybe just tell her that you know your pets better than anyone and they are not like that, and ask her not to mention it again?
As several people have stated, a lot of pets become more protective if anything.
