phoned doctor. What now?

I phoned medical practice to say that I'd just discovered I was pregnant and wanted to know what the next step was. They said I had to make an appointment with the doctor. Which I have, for tomorrow.

Do you think this is for a blood test, or just a chat, or what?

Any idea?

I dunno i think its just for a general chat and ask about ure last period etc and then i think when u go for your first midwife appointment you have bloods and stuff taken? X

My docter just asked how I was medically and that was it then booked me in with the midwife!!

yeah bit of a waste of time seeing your doc to be honest, first time i saw anyone was today (im about 8 weeks) and that was the midwife for blood pressure, bloods etc. The doctor wont do anything really apart from blood pressure, they may do a test to confirm pregnancy but thats about all. Wont give you any info either really

If you dont have many days holiday or it is hard to get out of work etc, i wouldnt bother seeing the doc tomorrow, i would just get an appointment booked with the midwife for about 8 weeks.

They kind of said I had to see a doctor. I wasn't really expecting to, I just wanted to know what I should do next. That's why I was asking on here to see what they might want to see me for.

The doctor will want to make sure you're taking all of the vitamins you should be and send you for prenatal blood work. Mine sent in my refferal to an ob at my first appointment too, but they're so backed up that i won't get to meet my doctor until June 2nd! The first appointment is to make sure that you're doing everything that you need to be to ensure a healthy pregnancy so I would make sure you go because you never know what you might be forgetting. It's also a great feeling to have a doctor confirm that yes you are indeed PREGNANT! yay! Congrats and good luck!

If your in the uk all that will happen is he will give you an estoimated due date based on your last period. Check you are taking your folic acid and give you a pricription and then get you to arrange to see midwife. This normally happend around 8-10 weeks . congrats
