Calorie Intake

Does anyone know roughly how many calories a day you should take in during your first trimester? My doctor told me that an extra glass of milk a day should be enough because I'm "not eating for two yet", but I swear I am so hungry all the time. I tried to cut back what I was eating because I felt it was too much, and now I just get so hungry that I start to feel sick so I have to eat again. Obviously I don't want to starve myself, but I don't want to eat way too much either.

Boooooo.

I think in the first trimester it's only 100 extra calories a day that you need. Not that I listened to those guidelines, I ate whenever I was hungry and didn't gain any weight in the first trimester.

I dont think you ever need to eat for two. You just need to eat good, natural, healthy foods and until you are full.

Just eat when your hungry, lots of small meals frequently. In third trimester you should eat 300 calories more then when you werent pregnant. Look up some height/weight ratios for yourself online, this will help you remind yourself not to gain too much too early. It is not good for you.

I think I'm about due to start to look at my diet. Up until the last week I've strruggled to eat ANYTHING... now... I want to eat EVERYTHING.

Weird thing is, I'm still not actually hungry, I think I'm more comfort food eating than hunger eating, so... of course... what I'm eating is sugary, fatty or caloriey... or... all of the above (chocolate crossants.. so good)

I think it's common to want to eat loads in the first trimester. You should be having roughly 300 extra calories in your 3rd trimester which isn't actually much at all so in your first tri it much be a tiny amount.

Even so I found I'd have to eat quite a bit more than usual just to stop myself feeling dizzy all the time. I think for a lot of people though it balances itself out. I'd have a week or so where I couldn't stop eating and then I'd go for ages not feeling hungry at all. Be guided by your body but try to keep it healthy. filling up on chocolate, crisps and sweets is obviously not good & I found that porridge or pasta stopped me feeling hungry for ages.

you dont need any extra calories at all until the last couple months then its only a few hundred more a day. thats what my husbands medical journal says. Main thiing is to listen to your body.
