Are anti-sickness tablets prescribed any good?

I've been suffering with all day sickness now for a couple of weeks but it has got worse over the last few days.
Today I called in sick for work and spent the whole day on the sofa - still felt sick but managed to keep the toast I had eaten and crackers down however every time I get up I battle with myself and try not to run to the toilet and be sick and get back on the sofa to try and stop the nausea.
I am not dehydrated however I can't keep taking days off work - will my GP prescribe me with anti-sickness tablets so I can go back to work or do they only give them to you if you can't keep any fluid or food down?
Also, do they work??

I'm scared to leave the house now because I constantly feel sick and even have a sick bowl in my car for when I drive to work - I have tried ginger biscuits and eating small amounts often but just can't get rid of this nausea and being sick!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :-)

Im on anti sickness tablets and i take one each night before i go to bed coz they make me drowsey.I find they do help but dont take it all away im still being sick from time to time.If you went to your doctor and told him about your sickness and said can you give me anything coz your struggling to cope and its getting you down then they might do.If not then asked to be signed off work until you get over the worst of it.Ive been off work since january because ive been struggling to cope and to look after my 14 month old daughter.Last pregnancy was worse for sickness was being sick a lot more but never asked for anything just coped with it better i guess but then i didnt have any kids to look after last time. But yes have a word with your doctor you might be suprised but rest does help alot ive foundSo know what your going through its not nice and it is time unfortantly

Thanks Bernie - I am going to see my doctor tomorrow - I certainly feel better resting and not upright and hope the sickness wears off a bit as I daren't take too much time off work..........
Blimey, never thought being only 8 weeks pregnant would be so much hard work.......it's amazing how exhausting morning, noon and night sickness is......and the constant nausea...........however trying to keep positive and remember that these symptoms are a good sign...........

Yes try get a nap in the afternoons if you can thats what ive been doing.Put my daughter to bed after lunch then go to bed my self even if i dont sleep i just lay there and rest my body for an hour in the piece and quiet it really helps. If your sickness was to get worse dont feel bad about getting the doctor to sign you off coz its yours and your baby health and the early part of pregnancy does make you tired and sick dont worry though all is very normal My diet so far has been toast and weak juice oh i really hate toast now but its help me from throwing up so its not all bad i guess Im now 13 weeks and still feeling queasy and hopeing it will ease off soon

I truly feel for you hun - I'm having a hard enough time looking after myself - it must be really hard for you looking after your daughter when you feel rubbish all the time!

I'm on 2 lots of anti-sickness throughout the day (i take them alternatively). I tried 3 lots until the hospital suggested 2 lots together when i was admitted with dehydration - it's been the making of me! My sickness started at 7 weeks & i was straight into hospital it came on so fast.
I completely feel for you hun but i'm here to say it will get better, just take things easy & remember what it's all for in the end
I'm here if you need to moan

Thanks hun - thankfully I am not dehydrated - typical - managed a cup of tea and slice of toast this morning and have docs appointment in an hour or so..........however, yesterday from midday onwards the nausea started so not holding out much hope and the last couple of weeks I have been sick a minimum of twice daily.
Hopefully they will be able to give me some tablets to help...........
So do these tablets that you take stop the sickness completely???

Hope your GP is helpful.

I had terrible nausea, like the worst sea sickness, and just couldn't cope with day to day stuff. My 3 yr old didn't leave the house for a week and i thought enough is enough and went to GP.

I can be quite snotty with GPs (long medical history with ignorant doctors! lol) So i researched on the net, went in, and told him i WANTED a prescription for Cyclizine. He wasn't happy, but i got it, and it made a difference. It didn't go completely, but i could at least function. Finally the sickness passed at about 18/19 weeks.

Good luck, i hope you feel better soon xxx

I really feel for you, sickness is so horrid and if you were not quite knowing what to expect its quite a shock to the system!

I really can't suggest much to help, like another post said don't worry about some early time off work, it is now you will need it the most!
My sickness was really bad last time so i suppose although its still not pleasant i am just grateful i can get off the sofa and move about this time!

It is trial and error really, i find sucking on sweets, nibbling toast, sips of cool water, all help a bit, but ginger biscuits always make me worse, but they work for some people.
I hope it eases for you, I am just hoping mine does ease, it has not in the past but i am going to have a word with my little bump at about 12 weeks and explain enough is enough and to behave for mummy now! (that never worked b4 either!!)

Good luck with work, and hope your sickness eases soon

Sorry just realised after all that i never answered your question! The sickness tablets didn't work for me, but that was my first pregnancy many years ago so i expect they are much better now, certainly worth a try when you are suffering, you get no prizes for suffering in pregnancy!! xx

Thanks for your comments Ladies - my doctor was useless - won't give me anything for the sickness. Says I just have to put up with it and hopefully it will go off soon. To eat what I fancy small and often blah blah blah.
She said the only way I would get anti-sickness medication would be if I was admitted to hospital with dehydration. Nice!
Oh well, back to lying on the sofa with my crackers!!

Cheers for all of your support..........ho hum...........gotta just get on with it..........
