Help girls, I'm crushed!

Not sure what to think...Some of you know I had my first ultra sound today. It did all but reassure me everything is good. The tech dated me at 5 weeks, I'm supossed to be atleast 6 1/2-7. She could barely make out a fetal pole (baby) and couldn't say there was a heart beat for sure but thought she saw a flicker. Then proceeded to tell me not to worry. I've been in tears since....

I can't offer any advice just hugs? When do you get your next scan? Can you afford a private one for reassurance in a week or so?

Try not to worry hun, although it is very hard. I wish you luck, also are you 100% that you got your O date right?

Thanks girls. No I'm not sure I got the o date right but going by my lmp (thats what my ticker goes by) I'm 6+5... It's hard not to worry. I just keep thinking something is wrong like a blighted ovum or something. She said that a day or two can make all the difference in scans. I may call my doctor and ask to be scheduled for another scan in a week. I'm really trying not to worry.... It's so hard.

I know it's hard not to worry. I am kind of in the same boat. However we have a waiting game, and probability may be on your side.
I dated myself at 7weeks 2days, but when I had my first scan, measured at 6weeks 2 days, and there was a heartbeat.

Think positive thoughts. Worrying can make you sick

I've made myself sick with worry. But I am feeling much better. Even if it's measuring small atleast there was a flicker and atleast it's alive!! No cramps and no bleeding is a great sign. And five weeks would explain why my breasts are just now starting to hurt and get heavy...

The reason we are considered full term at 38 weeks but are allowed to carry on until 42 weeks of pregnancy is because even if you are super positive of your LMP - you can in theory and practice conceive at any time between then and your next period (4 weeks)... So even if all the books say most of us conceive 14 days after our LMP you could instead conceive a week before or a week after....

What I am trying to say is that it is actually pretty normal to be out by a week or even two either way at your stage.... I can remember the agony of waiting for the 12 week dating scan - but be positive and when it comes around it will reassure you of your dates (and a week wont bother you at all by then!) and you will feel more positive about your pregnancy xx

Aww hun. Its a horrible time when this happens. I will tell you what happened to me.

I went for a scan at what I thought was 8 weeks only to be told I was 6 weeks pregnant, There was 2 sacs but only one baby, so the second sac went down as a failed pregnancy. They booked me in for a scan at 8 weeks to check all is ok with baby and that was that.

I went to the scan and she found a heartbeat and I was chuffed and she also found another baby!!! She said she couldnt believe it because when she scanned me last time the sac wasnt the right size and was only measuring about 4 weeks or so.

It can happen. Please dont tear yourself up about it. Do you have another scan booked.. Sorry if you have answered I didnt read all the posts because I am sorting the girls out...

Message me if you ever want to talk xx

i understand why u are so worried but it does to the 'reader' sound ok.
if i went by my lmp i would be like 15 weeks. when i went to my 1st scan I thought i was about 6 1/2 / 7 weeks, turned out I was 5 like you. The sonograoher just saw a fetal pole but no heartbeat. i had my 12 weeks scan yesterday and all was fine. i know it's hard not to worry but if u dont know ov date then most probably ur dates are wrong. also if it was a blighted ovum you wouldn't even see the fetal pole.
when are you getting re scanned?
xxxx
