Nuchal Fold

I went to see the midwife for the first time yesterday. She's going to book me in for my 12 week scan but she said that the trust that I'm in doesn't provide a nuchal fold scan and I would have to pay for a private scan to be done seperately.

It needs to be done between 11 and 14 weeks I think so thats before the 16 week blood tests they do which also test for downs.

I'm having a quandry now because even if the scan showed high risk, I would still wait for the 16 week blood tests before deciding whether I would go through with the CVS/Ammniocentris (spelling?).

Has anyone else been in the same boat? Did you go ahead with a private scan?

Hey, Im not sure if Im right or it will be the same as where you would go for your private scan..

But the place where Ive decided to go privately actually do the blood tests either a few days before your scan or when your there for your scan(you just wont know the results all at he same time if you did the later),

The private scan is much more detailed and does what the NHS dating scan and the 16 week bloods do at the 11 to 13+6 weeks scan..

Thank you! That's really useful. Not found out my closest private scan place is but will google now.

I guess my NHS trust isn't the only one that doesn't provide this for free?!

where i live they do not do the 16 weeks blood test for downs but i think thats because we get the nuchal scan and combined blood test at 12 weeks i think if i wasnt going to get the scan i would be happy with 16 weeks blood test personally but it would be a hard decision i think it would just be because we coulnt afford the private scan though lol
