I didn't bother seeing my gp - just rang for a midwife appt which I finally had last week. I found last time (when preg with dd) that I went and saw the gp but she didn't actually do anything. Didn't confirm my pregnancy - said the home tests were as good as what she could offer and to go and see the midwife. So I just skipped the dr's this time!

Went today

I got my BFP on Sunday last week and went to the doctors today, all he said was congratulations, worked out a sort of due date (9th of October) and prescribed me folic acid. I've to call and make a midwife ap in about 3 weeks, which if calculated right makes me 9 weeks. A bit of a let down really.

I made an appt that day but told them it wasn't urgent and they gave me today, 1 weeks and 4 days later.

When I saw my doc before xmas and told him I was trying he said to wait a week after missed period to test to avoid disappointment etc (as if I could wait that long!) and then book an appt to come in. I don't think he will do much either, except give me the midwife details. So anyway, as I tested 3 days early and got a + I will wait until weds, the day after I would expect just to make sure it doesn't somehow turn up and then book to see doc for the following week!

But it's got me thinking about midwife appt, maybe sooner is better if they are busy, but I don't want to turn up this week to then find he sends me away until it has been longer!

Ok, I have just checked the online booking system for my docs and the only appts left at the moment are end of next week so I went and booked it for Thurs 25th Feb as by weds they might all be gone - I can always cancel it

straight away

Hi

I went the day after my BFP for what they call a 'booking visit'. They basically just fill out a form, work out a rough due date for the baby and refer you on to the midwife for an appt at 8-9 weeks and to the hospital for a scan at 12 weeks.

I'm glad I went then - they also check your medical history and can refer you to hospital for additional care if necessary. I'm hypothyroid so will be seen for extra blood tests. Midwife called a few days after dr appt to increase my meds prior to first blood test.

It is a non-event at the GP though - I don't think they take you seriously until you've reached the magic 12 weeks
