I'm Currently Feeling: | Parsley I was just thinking of cooking this delicious salad that contains so much parsley and then I read this.. Quote: Safety Concerns
Parsley is not recommended during pregnancy. The seeds of parsley contain an oil that can cause uterine contractions and may lead to abortion. Parsley should also be avoided by someone with renal disease or who has an inflammatory kidney condition. The active constituents in the essential oil from parsley seeds includes apiol and myristicin and various terpenoids. These components in the oil can cause kidney and liver dysfunction.

I'm Currently Feeling: | This what not to eat stuff drives me crazy hah. I think my grandmother would burst out laughing if I told her I wasn't allowed to eat parsley while I'm pregnant, and have a story about how she ate it her entire pregnancy.
I think it is important to be wary of what we eat, but my God, every day it is a new food. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hey, yeah it's very strange just how many essential oils you need to avoid in pregnancy. I do aromatherapy at college, I'm currently training and since I've found out I'm expecting, I've done some research into what oils you're meant to avoid.
Below is a list of the ones to be avoided.
Angelica
Aniseed
Basil
Bay
Birch
Bitter Almond
Camphor
Cassia
Caraway
Carrot Seed
Cedarwood
Celery
Chamomile
Clary Sage
Clove
Cinnamon
Comphrey
Cumin
Cypress
Eucalyptus
Fennel
Galbanum
Hyssop
Jasmine
Juniper
Marjoram
Melissa
Mugwart
Mustard
Myrrh
Nutmeg
Origanum
Parsley
Pennyroyal
Peppermint (and during breastfeeding as it could discourage the flow of milk); Rose
Rosemary
Sage
Santolina
Spearmint
Tarragon
Thyme
Wintergreen
Wormwood
Yarrow.
Some oils are to be avoided for the 1st trimester, some for the whole of the pregnancy. I know there's a lot there, but I don't think they've ever really done "tests" on them as it would be unsafe to the unborn child and the mother, so they just go off the general properties of the oils.
Also, we're not meant to have massage, in any form for the 1st trimester, not even an Indian Head massage. Nor are we meant to have reflexology. All the treatments I do and am accustomed to having usually lol. Ahh well, the avoidance is for a very good reason! xx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Now do any of these specialists recommend how to avoid all of this stuff? I mean really! If you take this list literally you are cutting out almost all Italian sauces, nearly all soups, a whole bunch of Mexican and Spanish dishes. I'm not about to start making everything from scratch. And on top of that - where did the fun in eating go?!?!?!? Are there any spices left out there that are considered "safe"? Grrr.
The only two on the list I remember reading anything about are pennyroyal and marjoram. I think women used to put a large amount of them in drinks to force a miscarriage/abortion. This info. does come from romance novels though..... |
