Went for my first NHS scan but question for you ladies

Hi ladies,

I had my fist scan today and saw beanies heartbeat etc. All very releaved.

As my cycles are not quite the norm my mw thought I was 12+2 but I measured 9+4 which is about what I thought.

My question is, bubba was obviously still quite small and alien looking so apart from measure it and check heatbeat etc then couldn't do much more. I am a bit concerned that I couldn't get a full nuchal check like most people who present at 12 weeks do. I'm booked in for my 20 week scan in April but she said I won't be offered another scan even though I've had this one early as far as they are concerned they've dated me and that's that.

I'm just wondering if I should push for an extra scan or go private or not bother at all? Is it really that essential?

we don't get a NT scan here, so if they date u before the 12 week one, they won't let u have it. they will have been able to check the limbs and HB which is all they did at mine, and if it fits with ur dates I woldn't worry too much, they are able to recheck dates at the 20 week one. but if u are concerned a private scan won't hurt

I'm sorry for all your stresses so far!

Maybe it's because your scans were via you EPU?? The woman doing my scan was very matter of fact that I wouldn't get another scan

Hey hun,

If as far as they are concerened they have dated, then u might find it quite diffucult to get another scan out of them.... i had quite a few scans early on but only due to problems.

Certainly with my 20 week scan they were really thorough and took time to check everything, but i was lucky to get that beacuse alot of girls expecting in my area dont even get offered a 20 week scan unless there is a problem or high risk of something ...

I would say the 20 week scan is the more important of the two, but if you are really concerned you could book a scan with babybond

Hey Manchester Lu!

Do you mind if I ask which hospital you went to? I'm from Manchester aswell, and I was thinking of going to Stepping Hill in Stockport.

x

I'm at Wythenshawe hospital. Had my first at Bolton hospital even though I lived in Manchester. I was going to choose St Mary's this time round but all the community midwives around where I live are based from Wythenshawe so I wanted to keep consistancy. St Mary's is top notch though, not sure what Steeping Hill's maternity unit is like.
