Im popping back in so hope thats ok. I had scans at 4,6 and 8 weeks due to bleeding and i was still allowed my 12 week datiing scan. EPU and antinatal are 2 different departments that have nothing to do with each other. I also went up 5 days from my 8 week to my 12 week scan and my 20 week one matched exactly. I didnt have a nuclear fold (sp) scan, i opted out. Its up to youi if you have the tests done. But i have have heard there are a lot of people who get given high odds and then all be ok, i have worried enough. But it is completly up to you. Im not sure if all hospitals offer them anyway, but im sure you could have blood tests anyway if you wanted. Have you had a booking in appointment yet, Thats when i had my scan. I met my midwife 1st and then she refered me. But if you can afford it then have a private scan as i found it a long wait from 12 weeks to 20 weeks with no scan, i did hear heartbeat at 16 weeks but it still seemed a long time. Intill you feel movment reasurrance is good. talk to your midwife x

i had my 12 week scan on friday and was only in there a couple of minutes -they dont do nunchal scan unless youre deemed high risk via blood test or having multiples. I had a 9 week scan too and there was no mention of not having another at 12 weeks, if there was i couldnt wait til 20 weeks. be prepared tho as private scans are not cheap, my fried who is also pregnant (with twins) went to MUMS in Solihull last week for a nunchal scan but it was £170, she did get a decent dvd and loads of pictures, some 3d ones too and said the service was great. She has used babybond before and didnt rate them but that was only £70 i think.

i considered a private scan at one point and found a place in altrincham which looked good - cant remember the name tho, google private pregnancy scans and you'll find loads.

I found one through Baby Premier which do scans locally through a hospital in Cheadle.

I don't know, I'm such a worrier that if nothing else I think I might have a reassurance scan. Until I'm huge and waddling around I'll always wonder what the hell is going on in there! lol

if you want your baby tested for downs risk then you should push for it. you can only have it between 11-13 weeks....i had mine when i was 11 weeks 2 days and it was ok, i will get my results on thursday when i see the midwife....if you asked for the test then you should have been booked for another scan between 11-13 weeks. ask your midwife or doctor or whoever you see. its not right that they didnt give you a 12 week appointment. i think you should definitely push for it. x

I was in the same boat had a scan at what midwife thought was 12+3 weeks due to no period since implant removal. At the scan they discovered I was infact 10+2 weeks and they booked me in straight away for two weeks time before I left. So I've gotta go back on the 17th.
Talk to your m/w if your worried all areas are different.

If you want the nuchal scan and your NHS trust offers it as a matter of course (some only offer to high risk groups), I'd speak to your midwife - she can book you in for another at the right time. No need to go private unless you want 3D or something extra like that!
Good luck darls.

I would contact your midwife and explain your concerns and push for it. My hospital offers everyone an NT scan and even though I had scans for a TM at 6 and 8 weeks they said it wouldn't effect my NT scan. Good luck

My local NHS in London offers everyone a nuchal translucency scan between 11 and 13 weeks, combined with a blood test which calculates a risk for Down Syndrome. Some women who have a high risk then decide to follow this up with an amniocentesis test.

Not everyone attends this scan, it is not compulsory. You can also elect to just have the scan, dating etc. but without any information about NT or Downs.

Whether to arrange a NT scan privately - if it is not offered locally by your NHS - may depend on your thoughts on what you might do if the test suggested that there was a high risk of Down Syndrome.
