Early on your waist is ment to thicken and then exband, although this is mostly water retension and probably not baby (unless you are expecting multiples).
At five or six weeks I went out and bought a size up in all my work trousers and a pair of button elastic maternity jeans and have been living in those ever since. I accidently put on my old size 10s the other day and I'm about an inch away from getting the button done up, and the size 12s are starting to get uncomfortable when I'm sitting down, so looks like I'm going be needing lots more elasicated waist stuff, lol.
1st trimester might seem a bit early to be getting maternity clothes, but if your own jeans are digging in already might be worth looking into some from a maternity range. I recommend trying to get some that will last your whole pregnancy (so that it is a worth while investment - after all you will be wearing them for the next eight months). If you get them early, I suggest low waist (designed to sit under the bump) and button elastic (that is exbanded as you grow by moving a button along an elasticated banding sewn into the waist). Most maternity lines though, are designed for later in pregnancy, so in the short term it might be worth simly buying cheap trousers one size up from your usual (I got mine from Matalan at £6 each)
