First Midwife Appointment

i went for my first midwife appointment yesterday, was hoping they would do more than they did, perhaps let me hear a heart beat but she just took my family history and booked me in for my scan

I am just over 8 weeks and I know stressing wont do me any good but I just want to know everything is ok so far.

Also I keep looking for signs that i am still pregnant like are my boobs still sore and waiting for my next stomach cramp does anyone else do this???

You aren't alone, we all go a little crazy during pregnancy analyzing all of our symptoms, etc. The reason she didn't look for a heartbeat (I assume) is because it is very difficult to find prior to 16 weeks of pregnancy. Most women find it extremely worrisome if their doctor can not find the heartbeat, so a lot of doctors don't even try before the 15-16 week mark

My first appointment was exactly the same - total anti climax!!

I had my second 'booking in' appointment on tuesday now that I'm 12 weeks and they still wouldnt listen for the HB - she said that they have a policy not to listen for it until after you've had your 12 wk scan as they often cant find it and then women worry when they need not as like Vickie says its often hard to find until 15 wks +.

I've been paranoid every day since the day I found out! I also poke my boobs constantly to make sure they hurt! We're totally mental! Happy though!

Im 10 weeks and had my 1st midwife appointment yesterday too. Same procedure of form filling, taking bloods and urine samples. She did nothing to confirm the pregnancy. I found out at 5 weeks and have waited 5 weeks for this appointment and i share your feeling of feeling like an anti- climax. At this stage people are counting the days and every sign and symptom is under scrutiny. The ideal situation for me would have been for them to do a quick scan and say its all in place as 12 weeks is soooo long. I had a scan at 8 weeks too at the early pregnancy unit due to abdominal pains so it was good to have the pregnancy confirmed on the screen. I know how you feel tho, playing the waiting game is annoying.

I didn't get to listen to my babies heartbeat untill I was 25 weeks. By then I'd had my 20 week scan and she was moving enough for me to know she was just fine!
