Sorry didn't want to read and run, were you tested for thyroid levels with your first? Its not common unless something is suspected.
Can you tell me what your TSH level is?

I wasn't on meds for my whole pregnancy. I've had a low thyroid for at least 3 years before I got preg. My dosage through my preg was 150mg (which I didn't take, I couldn't afford it as I wasn't living in my "home" province)

My daughter is an extremely bright little girl

It can be fine. Once you have your prescription though please get it filled and remember to take it (can't be taken at the same time as your prenatal though) Hypothyroid can also cause preterm labour, another reason it's important to take it.

I feel best when my TSH is between 0 and 1, I think its about 1.5 right now (before I got pg anyway) and I've been good. My dosage will have to be upped now that I'm pregnant though.
If your TSH is 4.9 thats not very high. 49 is pretty high but I've heard of worse! (underactive thyroid causes your TSH to rise)

i had my tsh tested in the beginning of october and my tsh was 4.7, i got pregnant before my thyroid meds even had time to kick in, but since i've been taking them my tsh stays between .7 and 1.5...so its healthy for baby. if yours goes very much longer without being treated the biggest thing i would recommend is once your baby is born to make sure his/her thyroid gets checked yearly, as an out of control thyroid during pregnancy can cause the baby to have thyroid trouble outside the womb. but get on your meds and i think you'll be fine

Hi hun... I have an underactive thyroid also and am now 25 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I stopped taking my meds when I found out I was pregnant as I was unsure as what to do. I'm now on 150MG and I have my bloods taken regularly to check my levels. At first they were quite concerned about mine but after just 4 weeks of being on the right dose they improved dramatically! They are now perfectly where they should be and so far my little girl seems fine. Her 20 week scan was perfect and the hospital seems very happy with everything. I'm sure you and your bubs will be just fine so try not to worry, the main thing is that you now know you have an underactive thyroid and the Dr's can start treating it xxx

Funkyfish586 - My main symptom was extreme tiredness and also weight gain (I was diagnosed a few years before I fell pregnant) also had hair loss and hot flushes! Really if you have concerns your doctor should be sending you to be checked! Hope this helps xxx

Everyone has a thyroid hun, but it can be underactive or over active. It is sort of the bodies furnace, and regulates our metabolism.

My symptoms were, fatigue, dry skin, losing my hair, lethargy-like I couldn't think efficiently and slower healing if I cut myself or something like that.
