Hi
Was wondering are any of you ladies planning a home birth and if so have you spoke to a midwife/doctor and what sort of response did you get?

Thanks Nichol x

I would love to have a home birth but here in the US they're almost taboo. On top of that I've been having trouble finding a Midwife that will service the area I live in. I'm about 2 1/2 hours from the nearest major city.

I am in the US, and planning a home birth. I found a midwife and have opted out of the whole medical route. I am so excited about my birth, and can not wait. Talk to your midwife about it, and she can give you all the statistics that back up the fact that home birth is safe, and 90% of women will have no problem when given the right support and the proper care. There are minor complications that can arise that midwives are totally capable of handling. The very few that arise that need medical care, will be transfer to the hospital. Just comparing rates of episiotomy, epidural, c-section and such from an OB to a midwife, is pretty nuts. I think my midwife has a 1-2% episiotomy rate, and most OBs have 90+% rate. I think mental attitude is also important. Birth is not something I fear, I totally trust my body, and know I will have a great team around me for support during my labor. Plus, at the end of it, I get to curl up in MY bed with MY baby, and just be.

I don't even think there are such things as midwives in my province hah, let alone home births. I've never in my life heard of anyone giving birth any other way than in a hospital with a team of doctors and nurses haha. Would be nice though. I was watching a Baby Story yesterday and a girl had a water birth at home and it looked like a good option.

Thats awful to feel you have no other choice .When i gave birth in hospital it was an ok experience but the midwives had so many other women they were looking after didnt feel like i thought it shouldve and i go stir crazy when in hospital cos theres so much waiting involved waiting for midwife waiting for doctor just would like to give birth and then go in my own bath then enjoy my baby with my children around me and finally snuggle down into my own bed hopefully i will get what i want a tranquil home birth experience well as tranquil as i can get with 3 kids and a staffordshire bull terrier running around
