How early can you hear the heartbeat?

Hello all!

I was just wondering.. if you've heard your baby's heartbeat yet, or have had previous babies, how early did you get to hear it with the doppler? I have my own & it's a proper one like midwives use.. I can't wait to use it!

This is my second pregnancy but my midwife didn't use a doppler until about 16 weeks during my first pregnancy, & I'm pretty sure I could have heard it before then.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated!

I heard my LO for the first time at home this week, at 11 weeks, 1 day. Since then I can usually find it each day although the little bugger moves around quite a bit!!

We heard a heartbeat at our 13 week appointment, but it took a very long time for the OB to find it, and once she did we only heard a couple of seconds before she moved out of position. I think the reason a lot of places don't try to listen to the heartbeat before 16 weeks is that it can be difficult to find, and very worrying to the mother if it's not found.

I've heard on other threads like this people hearing on theirs from around 10 weeks and they are on cheaper ones. I think it just depends on how much time you spend trying to find the HB and not to be disapointed if you cant find it. I've got mine coming waaay i was going to buy one of the hi-bebe ones but i read that the angel one is as good so heres hoping i havent wasted my money ha ha!! I think prob around 10 weeks you should have a poke about ha ha!

I bought the Summer heart listener and thought that it would be really reassuring to have that and be able to tune in to babies heartbeat whenever I'm having a worry, meant to be able to hear it from 21 weeks with that - but I've not been able to hear it at all - all it seems to pick up is MY heartbeat - !!

I guess it may be different for some people though - I do keep trying incase I'm just in the wrong place on my bump but who knows - and I'm not hugely overweight or anything so it should be audible I'd have thought - midwife usually gets heartbeat pretty quick on doppler though so everything should be ok *touch wood* x
