GP Dilemma

Hi girls,

I need some advice about whether or not to change GP. Trying to cut a long story short I went to see my GP today. She's a new one and the other 2 in the practice are terrible so was hoping that the new one would be OK. I asked her if I was OK to keep taking the antihistamines and preventor inhaler that I use and her answer was that she didn't know and would have to look it up so best to ask the midwife when I see her. Completely unsatisfactory and I'm not seeing the midwife until 23rd Feb so not really good enough. To be honest I would normally not be worryig about it and would immediately move to DHs practice where all the GPs are lovely (and most importantly competant!!) but when I asked the receptionist today if the midwife was OK she said that their regular one had gone AWOL and there hadn't been a regular one there for the last few weeks so my question is............

Do I stay put at a practice I don't trust now, let alone when Onions makes an appearance but have the same midwife or do I jump ship and run the risk of not seeing the same midwife each time?

If you've managed to get through this without falling asleep thanks. Any advice will be very much appreciated.

FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!! Wow, that is horrid. If she didn't know, she should have looked it up there, or phoned someone who did know.

i would change to a new practice. also if your gp did not know the answer to your query, she should have said she would look it up and then contact you as soon as possible as opposed to suggesting the midwife should deal with it.

Does she not own or have a BNF in the surgery? I changed my GP within the same practice when I was pregnant, so I say if you're not comfortable, move.

I agree - I would want to switch doctors. Who needs this kind of stress from doctors like that who were supposed to help you!

Thanks ladies! I was worried I might be over reacting but think I'll def change. Trumpetbum - I didn't see a BNF but to be honest her office was so cluttered I'm not sure she'd have been able to find it if she had.

what's the MW like at your current practice? is your DHs practice taking new patient registrations?
If you have MW name and contact details you should be able to call her bfore 23rd feb anyway...
