I've been told I won't get a scan til 18 weeks or so (I'm in Calgary) but I really cannot wait that long to see if everything is OK with bean. In the UK i think you have one at 12 weeks.

Anyway, my question is - can I get an earlier scan, do I have to pay for it, and how much is it likely to cost. Hubby has said no probs as long as it is not extortionate!!

I'm here in BC and we get one scan only and it's at 20 weeks. (Annoying, isn't it.) At 16 weeks I went in for a private 3D scan. It costs $175 for one visit, 30 minutes long.

In Ontario, you are offered a nuchal scan at 12 weeks.
After that, you get an anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks.

Here in Victoria BC, with both my pregnancies I had them done at 18 weeks, unless you dont know your dates, then usually you will get an earler scan for dating purposes... You can get a private 3d scan, but they are not for any medical puposes, and do no check for problems and measurements (at least where I am going).

I live in the UK, but just wanted to say good luck for getting your early scan!They're really not that expensive, considering the peace of mind you get from it. I say go for it!!!

I'm in edmonton. I had a dating scan at 7w4d because I wasn't sure of my last period and wasn't going to be able to get in with an doctor right away so I talked to a medicenter doctor and explained that and he did the paperwork for me to get one.
I also had one at 12 weeks because I ended up in the emergency room bleeding, clearly no fun but baby was good
I had an anatomy scan (3D) at 19w4d and they saw a
almost everything they needed to just not enough of the face so I talked my doctor into letting me have another one. So I go in on the 10th of April and then I have to wait for the real thing.

Don't know how well it would turn out that early though when I talked to the tech they said 3d is best done (best pictures) between 24 and 32 weeks.

I'm in Ontario and they sent me for a dating scan at 13 weeks (but not everyone does this) and than the 20 week scan as well. Several places in Canada don't do this though.

I live in Calgary and my doctor had me booked to have a 4d scan that was covered under alberta health. None of your scans should cost you money unlesss you are not up to date on your AH payments.
But as the other girls said. If you arn't sure how for along you are you can request a dating scan and then you won't have another one until about 20 weeks (which is what happened with me). And if you are wanting to know the sex then you must let the ultrasound technician know. Most doctors will not allow you to have another scan just to find out the sex. Good luck!
