Nuchal Scan/dating scan?

My dating scan appointment was for 13+1 days but my partner and I are away then so I rang up to change the appointment and the lady on the phone said they can do it at 12+2 instead but they may not be able to do Nuchal scan then?

I did query it but she didnt say why, I thought that nuchal scans can be done between 11 and 13+6 weeks?

Hey hun,

Yeah the nuchal scan can be done between 11 and 14 weeks, maybe they don't have anyone with the relevant experience to do it at that time?

The people that do nuchal scans have to have certain qualifications and so on, its the only reason I can think of anyway

I thought so! I will double check with sonographer on the day and see what she says, it doesnt take longer to do does it? Im just thinking that maybe that could be a reason? The amount of time they have?

I don't think all hospitals have trained nuchal sonographers, imight be wrong, but i think thats why its not offered in all hospitals.

I don't think it takes longer, i just went for my dating scan and the sonographer noticed the fluid was higher than it should be i wasn't actually booked in for a nuchal. I had to go to a different hospital a week later for a detailed nuchal scan with a specially trained sonographer who not only looked at the fluid but everything else which took slightly longer.

I would ring back and ask to speak to the head receptionist or a midwife hun

To be honest hun I wish she hadn't even looked at mine!! I'm 24 and she said the measurement was above 3mm, when I went back it had gone down and at 16 week detailed scan it had gone down again and no abnormalities so in my opinion it just scares a lot of younger moms!!

I definately wouldn't have it done again!!

I'm sure everything will be fine, good luck
