Fifths Disease/Rash??

So my boyfriend just came home from work and told me that one of the girls at his work has Fifths Disease...one his coworkers came and told him to stay away from her because it can kill baby in first trimester if the mom catches it. Can anybody fill me in on this? I'm scared to be around him now in case he has it already and isn't showing a rash yet and I catch it!!

it usually occurs in children between the ages of 5-15, its contagious whilst no rash in visable although once rash is visable rare to catch it. mainly contagious and spreads easily from person to person in fluids from the nose, mouth, and throat of someone with the infection, especially through large droplets from coughs and sneezes

during pregnancy it may cause problems for the fetus. Some fetuses may develop severe anemia if the mother is infected while pregnant — especially if the infection occurs during the first half of the pregnancy. In some cases, this anemia is so severe that the fetus doesn't survive. Fortunately, about half of all pregnant women are immune from having had a previous infection with parvovirus. Serious problems occur in less than 5% of women who become infected during pregnancy.

Also I found this bit of advice online

Quote:
If you suspect or know you’ve been exposed to the virus, contact your health care provider. She can perform a blood test to see whether or not the parvovirus is present in your blood system. If the virus is present, your health care provider may decide to monitor you more closely.

Thanks girls

If Adam starts getting sick I'll call the doctor ASAP. He wasn't at work last week because he had influenza so I've read that the person is most contagious before they break out, like the first poster said..so hopefully he missed that part! I don't think she should still be at work! She's still going to work and her secretary who is in every day contact with her is pregnant....I guess some people just don't care.

It was nice that someone warned you. Maybe someone should pass this information on to her too?

Lots of work places encourage people to come in sick- just to keep their absence figuers down, and then they get the whole workplace sick too :/ It is not a good trend.
