Always always ALWAYS wash clothes before using them. This applies not only to baby clothes but to your own as well.

These clothes aren't made then given to you just like that. They're handled by who knows how many people when being made. They're then shipped all over the world in crates. They're left in crates for weeks in unhygienic places. Then they're handled by who knows how many shop assistants. Then hung up till you buy them.

I wash ALL my clothes before wearing them. There are icky bugs etc that find their way into them. I've seen horrible pictures.

I'd suggest washing the babies clothes just before the baby arrives otherwise they'll need to be rewashed. So far all my baby clothes have just been folded up and packed away till a bit closer to the time.

Best to wash them right before LO is due, too early and you'll just have to redo the washing

Definitely wash them, but I would wait until closer to birth time. Not only are the other ladies right, but they also add fire retardant to some baby gowns which can cause skin irritation. It is so fun choosing outfits though isn't it?

I can't wait either, but I'm don't want to buy the little one anything till I get my scan and am past the 12 week marker. On the day of the scan (if everything is ok) we're going out to buy it's first teddy

And I work at a clothes retailer and I see the things that can happen to clothes (from just being dropped on the floor, to some snotty kid wipping their hands all over it, to something being worn and brought back). So I'd advise you wash it first. I don't mean to scare you, most items are probably fine but with a little one I'd be extra careful.

I haven't bought anything yet, we have looked, but not bought. I think it is bad luck to buy too early and on top of that we want to find out the sex first.
