Scan only showed Gest. Sac no yolk sac

I went for an early scan today - I thought I was 7+2 the scan showed that I was 6+2 but she could only find a gestistation sac she couldn't see a yolk sac or heartbeat. I have to go back for another scan in 2 weeks.

Has this happened to anyone else???

I'm really worried now and don't know how I am going to get through the next 2 weeks.

I had the same thing happen at my scan today. I'm not sure how far along I am. I think around 6 weeks? I am due to go back again next FRiday and they are monitoring my hcg levels as quite low so far.

My thoughts are with you.

Maybe you're a week or so less than you originally thought? It seems to be pretty common to be a week or so behind on a scan from the date you think.

Hi Hon,

Yes this happened to me. I went for a scan last tues when I should have been 6 weeks and they could just see gest sac and nothing else. They said either my dates were wrong which is really common or my bean wasn't growing. I went back this weds and this time the sac had double in size and you could see the start of the yoke sac so they said everything looked fine. Im going back again next weds by which tiem we should be able to see a heartbeat.

Try not to worry too much hon, this happened to my friend too, its REALLY common for dates to be wrong/different. Fingers crossed for you hon, Im sure everything will be fine.

Yes, last pregnancy they couldn't see anything in the EPU, went back the next week, and there was the heartbeat! For me, it just seemed to be the person scanning did a better job. Try not to stress over the next 2 weeks- maybe your GP could do a quantative HCG test?

Hey Ladies!

Just to say, same thing happened to me. Went for first early scan on 18.12.09 and it showed a gestational sac measuring 5+6 but nothing else at all. Went back the following week (Christmas Eve) and a wee baby was there with a flickering heartbeat. Literally 2 days can make a huge difference apparently so try not to worry.

And as catfromaus says, I do think much can be down to the persistance and skill of the sonographer! I was sure I saw a wee white thingy inside the sac in the first scan but dissmissed it when they said there was nothing there yet.

Yep that happened to me. I went back two weeks later and saw the little heartbeat and the peanut, too. I know it's hard to wait. My two week wait fell over my Christmas break from teaching, and it was extra torturous!! They told me that I ovulated later. So, try to stay sane and know that it is pretty common for this to happen!
