Nuchal Scan - Quick question....

I'm having my first scan done next week (actually first ultrasound EVER) and I will be having a nuchal scan as well as dating done at the same time. Do the technicians tell you the results on the spot or do you have to wait for that? I don't see my midwife again until Feb 8!
I was just wondering if something is wrong (other than there being no baby which I would find out right away) do they tell you how things look? Or will I have to wait?

I got my results right away when I did mine. I was at a fetal medicine clinic though. Basically, what you will get is a sheet that gives you different "chances" (bad word I know) of your risk factors for down syndrome trisomy 13 and trisomy 18. There will be a normal rate ex. 1 in 1,000 and with your results yours could come in at 1 in 4,000. Meaning that your very far off from having any problem. The issue is when it comes in at 1 in 250 or less. Mine came in at 1 in 10 for Trisomy 13 and 18. Further testing is required or suggested at that point.

Anyways, long story short, they should tell you right away, because if you need further testing that needs to be booked quickly. If they don't say anything, I think that's like normal doctor talk that everything is fine. Make sure to tell them when your seeing your dr next though. And for sure, if there is a problem, your dr will contact you shortly after with results. But don't worry, you'll be just perfect!!!

Hi Holly, I had my NT Scan at 12 weeks and there were 2 technicians who worked together. They told me their findings there and then ie: the nuchal fold measurement and that baby looked ok. When I probed them about the findings they said from the scan it looks low risk but to wait for the final results which include the blood test numbers. I got a letter 10 days letter which confirmed low risk at 1:14000.

Good luck to you, it was awesome seeing our baby looking like a baby and moving around. Let us know how you go

i decided not to get this scan, i thought it would scare the bejeebus out of me, plus i'm 20, so the doc said i'm pretty much low risk anyway, just gonna leave it to the powers that be on this one though. what is meant to be will be.
