First scan help please????

hello all

i had my appointment for my first scan come through today.
my MW said they'd put a leaflet in there to tell me how much water to drink, wee sample etc, anyway it wasn't in there, i had such a frosty response from the lady on the phone at the hospital that i dare not ring back!!!!
anyway could someone please fill me in on how i prepare for my first scan?

I drank about 400 ml of water about 1 hour before my scan. I never got a letter so I just guessed, but the doctor said my bladder was very full! I have heard other people be told to drink one litre which sounds too much to me as your bladder can't hold anywhere near that and I was absolutely bursting for the loo when I was waiting for my scan.

i'm only little and so is my baldder currently so i will try to drink as much as possible without peeing myself!!!
my MW also left me a pee pot, do i take a sample to the hospital with me??? did anyone else?

I'd say drink as much as you can without feeling uncomfortable, i didn't take a wee sample with me, they asked me to do one when i got there, don't worry it will all be fine once you get to the hospital, hope everything goes well, im sure it will xx

Hi, im having a scan tomorrow and i was given a pot to wee in which i was told i need to do in the morning and take with me. I wasn't told how much water to drink but after one normal mug of tea my bladder feels full, so a good glass full should do the trick. On my first my bladder was too full and they asked me to get rid of a bit which was a nightmare, how can u control ur wee when ur absolutely bursting!! Anyway good luck x

I wouldn't drink heaps, often half a litre is enough. Empty your bladder about 2 hours beforehand, then drink about 500-700mls in the hour following. You should be ok

In the US any way, I was told to drink at least 1 liter of water 30 minutes before you go for your scan. Basically, drink until you can't drink anymore, and you have to let it sit for a while.

Hi hun, my letter ssaid to take a pee sample from early morning, but mentioned nothing about drinking.

So I figured I would drink plenty beforehand, and if I get there and they don't want a full bladder, I can pee first
