Any tips for a "good" scan?

Hi all,

I have my 12 week scan tomorrow afternoon, which I am really looking forward to (if ever so slightly apprehensive!)

When I booked it they didn't advise me of anything I should do to prepare so...

Just wandering whether any of you girls who've already had scans have any hints on how to prepare. Do I have to drink lots? Go to the loo first? Any tips on getting the little chap/chapette moving about?!

I'm so excited. This will be the first time we have seen or heard our little fella! Proof at last that it really exists!

Thanks in advance ladies.

Jemima x x

I had an 8 week scan and drank loads of water - to the point that i needed to pee badly - but was able to find the bean easily. My friend drinks a fizzy drink when she went for 20 week to see the moevements - she reckoned the sugar had an impact on the baby and was moving loads. Good luck for the scan x

Ooooh, Bambino! Fizzy drink. Sounds like it could work. Don't normally drink pop but I'll give it a try and let you know tomorrow!

my friend recently had 12 week scan and she didnt have to drink lots i know that when i had a scan i had to but that was 20 week one never had a 12 week scan before as they were not available in my area when i was pregnant before maybe you should try ringing the scan unit and ask reception what they advise in the morning hope it all goes well tomorrow.

i was advised to drink plenty of water before my 12 week scan last year, i had an emergency scan this year, and had drunk no water, and it had the same effect, so im not to sure.

I dunno. I suppose if they had wanted me to drink lots, they would have told me when I phoned them. Might just give them a call in the morning like you suggested dizzynic.

its probably best to drink about a pint of water before you go and when you get there ask on reception and if they say you dont need to then you can go for a wee also one thing i will say is try to open your bowels (sorry everyone) in the morning as once when i went they couldnt see my ovaries as i had too much gas
