Twins don't have to be in the family if you have an assisted conception like we did.

There are two types of twins, twins from one eggs that splits - which is random and can happen to anyone. Known as identical twins, or twins from two eggs which occurs to woman who are prone to ovulate more than one egg at a time. Known as non-identical twins. I am one of these - I know because every woman in my family has these twins, so my chances of having them are very very high, getting higher the older i get!

My OH's first words to me after we found out we were pregnant were "twin girls". Lol. So we'll have to see if his prediction was right.

I'd actually love twins but I think it sounds like double the work and twice the shopping.

I met a lady yesterday who is expecting twins (both girls they think) and her bump was massive, she said she had really bad back ache.

My mom is doing research in our family tree to see how many there are, and so far she has counted up to 50 pairs (this goes way back, and not all survived). I spoke to a gentecist about my chances of having them and he said it is passed through women and I would have an 80% chance of having them, but have lucked out so far (I don't want to have twins!). My daughters also have the same chance of having them. So, it depends on your family history or it could be just a fluke thing.
Wow, that's amazing to have so many twins in the family

Yeah, as said above... identical twins are a miracle of nature where the egg splits, and is random, not genetic. But fraternal twins ( non-identical) run through the family on the womans side.

I was pregnant with twins this time round, but I bled for two weeks, and scans revealed the other twin disitegrating, and now I'm pregnant with one. I don't think there is history of twins in my family.. although I'm not 100% sure, as I was fostered, and don't really know too much about my Mums side.

Fraternal twins rock. I can't wait to have mine - I want twin girls next. Get it all over and done with in my second go. Plus being a fraternal twin myself, the bond between twins is amazing! They keep each other amused - but we quickly learnt tricks like distracting mum whilst the other did something naughty! lol
