Over here in the UK pregnant women are either told to not drink at all through pregnancy or to have a few glasses of wine a week.
Now I don't drink at all, never touched the stuff but was wondering what all your thoughts were on drinking when pregnant and what you are planning to do?
Ive not touch one drink i never judge people on what they choice to do, personally i dont want to. i did hear on the news the other day that now they advise not to touch one drink.
I drank wine a few nights in a row before I found out I was pregnant, but my doctor told me not to worry about it. Since I found out, though, I haven't had a drop.
Some people say it's okay to have a few glasses a week and that's their prerogative, but the fact is we don't know the threshold of alcohol use as it pertains to FAS. It could be several drinks a day or it could be one. Why take that chance?
Personally I think it's probably totally safe to drink a few glasses of wine or beer a week after the first trimester. But I know that if there were (God forbid) anything wrong with my child, I'd always wonder if I caused it because I couldn't stop drinking for nine months. The potential guilt just isn't worth it to me.
I know you are advised that the odd drink is ok but personally I do not see the point in risking it. I am a teacher and have seen the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome in the physical features of kids and their mental states. If only their mothers cared enough to know the implications of drinking were going to impact on the rest of their kids lives. Sad really.
