Housing Benefit Question - please help!

Basically I have been told I qualify for assistance with rent once my first 6 weeks of full maternity pay at work reduces to SMP for the rest of my leave. This is because, with an income of £123 a week, I can not afford to privately rent and the council waiting list is ridiculous.

I just wanted some advice on timing and filling in the forms.

Basically, I want to get the form completed in good time as it will take a while to process. I am going to move out closer to my due date and pay the rent myself and hope that my form gets processed and takes affect for when my pay reduces significantly. I just wondered if anyone else is in a similar situation?

I looked through the form and thought it may be a case of completing it when I am on maternity leave, receiving full pay. Make a note of the dates I will be receiving full pay and then make a note of the days I will move to SMP. Hopefully, with 6 weeks of full pay, this should give them enough time to process my form for them to help me when I get SMP. Has this worked for others?

I am scared there will be a delay and I start getting SMP and cant afford the rent because the damn housing people are being slow and annoying!

Advice please!
