*rant* rubbish gp!!!!

hiya ladies, well sorry for the rant but am very upset at the mo.

Found out i was pregnant on monday, huge shock, but anyways not really clear on how far along i am due to taking the pill and very irregular cycle since having my dd. So went to see my GP to get booked in with the midwife, and he estimated i could be as far along as 13 weeks. So he got the doppler thing out and had a quick poke about, and then said oh well i cant find it but PROBABLY nothing to worry about, i mean WTF, i have done nothing but since.

Anyway he then said i will get the midwife to contact you and this will be in around 4 weeks!!!!, i was like but by then i could potentialy be 17 weeks, so will miss the chance to have the triple test at 15 weeks. He was like well sorry but thats how it works. anyway so not happy with this so rang epu at hospital just to see if i could arrange to get the bloods taken there so i dont miss the chance, and they were like sorry but you must be referred here by your midwife. I explained the situation about not having one yet and the situation at my GP, and the lady as like sorry but we must follow protocol.

Anyway sorry for long post but just am feelin a bit as combined with the shock of finding out i am expecting then to be told unable to find h/beat but a scan will confirm in 4 weeks is just all a bit too much.

if you made it this far down my post thank you

Aww hun, so sorry. Could you not go back to your GP and perhaps ask him to refer you onto the EPAU until you can get to see your midwife?...I know in my area, the waiting list to see midwife is about the same. I have to wait just over 5 weeks for my midwife appointment, but then again, i'm not as far on as you are. I really hope you get sorted soon, and goodluck to you xx

I don't know how things work there, but why didn't your GP do a scan on you? The only way to find out how far you are is by doing a scan. Your midwife will not be able to find out how far you are either. This really sucks! Sorry you have to go through this kind of protocol!

Can you change GPs or go for a second opinion? That's just ridiculous and you shouldn't have to pay for a private scan just because of that!

Thanks ladies, well i found the telephone number for my midwife who saw me when i had dd back in dec 08 and turns out she is still the same one for my area, so made an appointment direct with her for next tuesday so definately better than waiting 4 weeks to get booked in and should help to get everything else moving a bit quicker.

My GP surgery gives you the MW number to contact yourself to arrange your appts. Try ringing reception and asking for the number for the midwife - then you can explain to her and maybe she can bring things forward a bit.

*Just saw your response - and that you have managed to contact her...sorry, pregnancy brain I think!!
