Retroverted uterus

Im trying to find out if anybody who has a retroverted uterus has had their scan dates show diff to their own dates??

Ive read that sometimes the scan shows diff dates because the ultrasound has more layers to get through and so doesnt pick up as much detail in the early stages as easily.

Anyone had this happen?

OMG Finally!!! Someone who has the same problem as me!! .........well its not actually a problem is it?!
Yes i do have a retroverted uterus and im 13 and half weeks now. Ive had 3 scans and they all show the same sort of dates as my own, apart from the last that showed i was 4 days earlier than my own dates!
Its not anything to be worried about, my mum had the same thing with all three of her pregnancies, and all three of us were fine!
The only thing that may be different throughout our pregnancies is that it is harder to get a good picture on the scan ( as you seem to have found out!)
You may suffer with constipation more and hopefully your bump wont become as big! until your uterus lifts up!!! i havent been told of any severe problems that may occur( maybe they dont want to scare me!)
All the best with the rest of your pregnancy, and if you want to talk you can pm me!
Take care xx Becki xx

Hi, I too have a retroverted uterus. As I have had very erratic periods for some time, I could not give a LMP date and so had to have a dating scan. When the ultrasound was carried out the radiographer could not pick up anything at all, due to the position of my womb. This was obviously very worrying for me, and I feared the worst. However i then had an internal scan, and my little bean (and its heartbeat ) could be seen immediately and clearly.
I was dated at 7 weeks and 1 day from that scan, but was confused as to how they could be so precise without a LMP date. When I got home I realised that this date must be wrong as I know I didn't have sex around that time. ( I only usually see my partner at weekends) Therefore I estimate that am approx 3/4 days either side of that date.
The radiographer also said that my due date could be altered at my 12 week scan, which is on the 18th April.
I can't wait for my next scan and will be interested to see how clear it is, or whether my dates do change.
Keep us updated with your progress too hun,
xxxxx

Oh Wishes, I know you had a hard time at the last scan, my fingers are crossed for you that there is a simple explaination. And this one might explain it.

If they think this the problem, maybe at your next scan they will be able to do an internal scan like cuddles sugested.

Hi , I too have a 'wonky womb' and I'm soo glad that there are people on here to share information with as not many people know much about it that I talk to.
I only found out about this when I had to have an internal one time and the gyno said that I may find it difficult to conceive! So here I am, still trying!

I have a retoverted uterus too. Retroverted uteruses only stay retroverted until around 12wks and then tip forward into the anterior position and it's then exactly the same as any other pregnancy. My scan at 12wks was very clear, but then I had drunk about 3 pints of water before (maybe a little excessive). At 14 wks I asked my GP if my uterus would still be retroverted and she said 'no, she could feel it there at the front in the anterior position'!

It can be harder to get a good picture with an external ultrasound until the uterus tilts forward, so internal are better. You may not be able to hear the heartbeat until later either.

I forgot to say - standing on your head, the cycling position and on your tummy with bum in the air is the best thing to do for at least 15 mins after sex if you have a retroverted uterus. It pools the semen around the cervix, not like the on your back with bum in the air which can cause them to miss altogether! Goodluck
