Went To The ER This Morning - I Have Been Diagnosed With...

Hyperemesis Gravidarum. They told me that it only happens in 1% of pregnancies. Does anyone else have this or have any advice for me? It would be greatly appreciated.

My blood pressure was WAY high, and my temperature was low. I was pale white and unable to eat or drink for about 36 hrs before going in. I've lost more weight, completely dehydrated that my lips are cracked deep. They put me on IV's of Saline solution and Zofran (which I was already prescribed the pills, but they wouldn't stay down worth ANYTHING). Hopefully this ends soon.

=)

Also, i take B6 and i think that REALLY helps with MS.

Good luck hunny! Hope it eases for you soon x x x

Its severe morning sickness well constant sickness but the severe type. I had hyperemesis when I was Pg with Ben from 3 weeks until 23 weeks I lost two stone became very anaemic and suffered hair loss and also my teeth suffered becuase of the constant sickness and it drained the calcium from my body !!

I had to have weekly regular IV transfusions and had Stemetil but as I continued beyond 12 weeks about 16 weeks I was admitted and put onto think it was called dexomethasone (its a steroid type drug) as well. That massively helped me.

I have heard that an antihistamene could help and as someone has said Vit B6 maybe.

In Boots they did a sucrose tablet just a herbal type tablet and helped me. Im not sure if Boots still do them but its in the boots own brand stuff.

Hope you get through it hun xx

Just googled this;

Antihistamines or H1 blockers

There is a lot of evidence that antihistamines - drugs that block the chemical histamine released in allergic reactions - can help relieve nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (Jewell and Young 2003). Antihistamines often cause drowsiness, and are best taken at night.

Those commonly prescribed for pregnancy sickness in the UK are Promethazine (brand name Avomine) and Cyclizine (brand name Valoid) (ACOG 2004, CKS, 2005).

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine)

Women with severe pregnancy sickness have been found to have low levels of vitamin B6. Research has shown that this vitamin can help pregnancy sickness without causing side effects (Jewell and Young 2003). Although it's possible to buy it over the counter, you should ask for it on prescription from your GP. The recommended dose for pregnancy sickness is 10-25mg of pyridoxine, three or four times a day (ACOG 2004, Jewell and Young 2003). Some over-the-counter tablets are stronger than this, and the studies have not looked at the safety or effectiveness of these higher dosages (CKS 2005).

A good quality pregnancy multi-vitamin may also reduce symptoms in some women (CKS 2005). But remember that taking vitamins and minerals during pregnancy is a form of medical treatment, and make sure you talk to your doctor before taking anything.

Combination of antihistamine and vitamin B6

Some studies have found that a combination of anti-histamine and vitamin B6 work better than either on their own (ACOG 2004, Motherisk 2002). Although there is no combination drug currently available in the UK, you can take them separately.

Dr Roger Gadsby, a GP from Nuneaton who set up the UK's only pregnancy sickness support service says that both these tablets are available on prescription. It's also possible to buy them over the counter at a chemist, although you should always talk to your doctor before starting any form of self-treatment. If you want to try this combination, ask for pyridoxine 10mg tablets and promethazine (Avomine) 25mg tablets. Take two of each at night (avomine can make you sleepy); after a few days you can add one in the morning and one at lunchtime if needed. Do not exceed the stated dose.

If you do take the B6 route (Im also taking a B-Complex), dont assume that your prenatal vitamin has all the B6 you need. Actually most prenatal vitamins dont have nearly enough! If you look at the label you will be surprised to find how little of B6 there actually is in it. So if you do take B6 you may want to take it on top of your Prenatal. The great thing about it is that you can't overdose. Your body will get rid of any B6 it doesn't need (you pee it out, usually turns your urine bright yellow). i was taking B6 when TTC (to lengthen my LP) and i def. had the bright yellow. But now that im preggo, i def. dont have bright yellow urine anymore so it just proves how much B6 a pregnant woman really needs. Because the body will only absorb as much as it needs. xxx

come and join us in the gestational complications section, there's a few of us.

It's good you've diagnosed though. The usual things like ginger, crackers aren't going to help. Its great you've got zofran its not prescribed alot in the Uk but I've been given a few tablets and it helps so much more. If you cant take tablets ask for suppositries.

Make sure you get your ketones checked regularly. And if you can't keep food/fluid down for more than 24 hours go back into hospital.

I hope it stops for you soon, mines still here at 21 weeks xxx

Honestly, my morning sickness started like normal at exactly 6 weeks. But has progressively gotten extremely worse. My doctor told me that I should stop taking my prenatal vitamins until my sickness subsides, because they were worried it was the vitamin giving me more nausea. But I did try vitamin B6 in full tablets and Unisom. But my vommitting is SO bad that I can't take any pills and keep them in my stomach long enough for them to dissolve and do any wonders on me. My midwife then prescribed an antinausea suppository, which I tried once and it made me feel worse (I think just because of the weird feeling you get from putting it "you know where"). Ehk. I'm just so tired of being frustrated about throwing up and not being able to eat or sleep properly. I can't even leave my house, and if I do, I bring at least ten small black trash bags with me, just in case I can't get to a toilet. It's miserable! =(
