Nuchal Scan

When I had my booking in appointment last week, the MW said that a Nuchal scan was not free on the NHS and I had to pay for it privately if I wanted one....and I am sure I have heard some girls on here, say they had it through the NHS....

Anyone know the score???

xxx

That statement isn't true, sorry.

I had an NT scan (and bloods) through my hospital on the NHS. It just depends on the trust. The trust 'next door' to mine doesn't offer them so friends have had to have them privately but I'm very lucky with my hospital.

So the midwife is kind of right for your trust, but that's wrong information for across the board.

I guess it depends on where you are. Here for example, it is not free even on public hospital, although it is cheaper than doing it in a private clinic. I guess it is because it is not a standard test.

Ah, so it depends on the trust...that sucks!
Trust me to live in an area that doesn't do them free

Don't worry hun, I think you're in the majority to be honest. And having mine made me so nervous! xxx

Apparently only 30% of women get it free. It's the damn postcode lottery I'm having to pay £210 to have mine done tomorrow. It's terrible if you ask me.

That's awful! I have assumed I would have it done as it explains about it in my pregnancy notes. Fingers crossed - I guess I will find out next week.

Just nthing that it depends where you are. In the Netherlands it's covered by insurance if the mother is over 36, otherwise you don't get one.

Are you getting a 12 week dating scan?

I think most places do an NT scan if you are high risk/older

However you will get bloods taken at your mw appointments.
