My midwife suggested it as I'll also be 35 by the time bean is born. I go for mine at 11w 6d and get the bloodwork done at the same time.

I really was just dumbfounded that the nurse who works at my GP's office didnt know about the IPS screening! I know what/when it is and I was really pissed that she argued with it and then told me I couldnt have ANY scans until 21 weeks.

However, im going to use a midwife instead.

I am obviously having my prenatal care etc in the US (almost Canada though!.....=/...Kinda...) and there's been absolutely no talk of nuchal translucency tests, so I'm wondering if in some places they only do them over a certain age?

I had a private scan at 13 weeks and the next time I see ob-gyn will be about 17 weeks...something like that...and they're not doing a scan then! So don't think I'll be having one!

For a healthcare system we have to pay for (in the US) they don't explain much...

xx

Nightkd, the private scan you had at 13 weeks they should've been able to see the things they need to see at the nuchal scan as it's just a regular ultrasound where they measure the size of the neck of the baby.

alright you ladies are confusing me. I'm in Montreal and I'm having my first appt with my doctor in end of january; his receptionist told me to call the hospital and schedule a 'depistage pre-natal' (err pre-natal scanning?); that will be start of february> - perhaps that's the same thing? I'm 37 so it might be.

I'll be 12 and 13 weeks by then. Seems like lightyears away. I feel completely in the dark until then. And it's so dang hard to get straight answers out of anyone, they're all so dang busy *rant*

I think it is more than a regular ultrasound. In the public hospital they referred me to another hospital, because they require another equipment to do that. It cannot be done in any clinic, without the right equipment.

I was given the option of having the testing done, but chose not to.
I'm only 21, so chances of having a baby with DS are much slimmer, also, I wouldn't particularily want to know. It wouldn't make a difference as to whether or not I would have this baby or love this baby.
No abnormality would change how i feel about my little bean <3

No.. it really is just my particular GP... I know of alot of women who are younger/my age who got it with no risk of DS. Its something that is covered by our health insurance and is supposed to be given if requested by any woman.

My gp's nurse is just an idiot. I've never heard of anyone having to wait until 21 weeks for an ultrasound.

I also had an early mc a couple months ago, which they know about. Im not even going to get into how rude they were with that.
