Early Scans?

Hi,

Does anyone know if you are likely to get a scan if you have no idea when your last period was to give you an EDD?

My last AF was sometime in the summer so i really don't know my dates and I really want an early scan to make sure beany is ok

xx

You might get one seeing as your last period was so long ago, however most places operate on the basis that if there was a problem or previous miscarriages, you'd get a scan.

At my mums dating scan she was found to be 6 months pregnant, rather than 3, so i doubt they will give u an early one.

I think you will.

I know when my last period was but then had what seemed like a lighter period 3 weeks later and so I guessed it was AF again but my Dr thinks it was more likely implantation and so is sending me for an early scan just to get the dates sorted.

We have a private scan booked for next week so if ours has come through by then, great, if not, we'll still go for that

Gosh that must have been a shock!! lol

I read on google about people lying and saying they didn't know when it was just so they could get one So I though it must be pretty general practice! Obviously not though.. never mind

People who do that are disgusting, the early pregnancy units are always very busy with very little funding and those who truely need the services due to miscarriages etc will find it more difficult to get a scan.

However your case is different, think you might get a scan because your dates are so messed up, but i wouldnt expect it too soon! xxxxxxx

Exactly what I thought... there were even some people who said they pretended to have bleeding to get one. Makes you wonder what gos through someone's head to do something like that. Hmm very messed up

Well in the uk everyone has a scan at 12 weeks which is what they class as a dating scan, then if you have bleeding before then you get an earlier one. It could be different in different places but generally its not.

It is common for you to go in for an early scan to determine your dates accuratly. After this first early scan it will help you plan the rest of your pregnancy, as you'll have a very good idea of how far along you are within a few days. This way you can opt for the Nucal scan, detailed anomaly scan, 4d scan etc...
Hope it helps.
Kindly,
Siobhan

i dont think this is the case. Certainly not in my area anyway. I'm high risk of ectopic pregnancy due to damaged and twisted tubes amongst other problems and was told my my specialist that when i got pregnant i should have early scans. However when i fell pregnant this was not the case and i ended up paying for a private one.
