Decongestant nasal spray? Yes/no?

Hi ladies,

I am SO bunged up and occasionally sneezing and its driving me mad! I dont feel like I have a cold but I just wondered am I ok to use a Sudafed Decongestant Nasal Spray? I have one here on my desk, but not the original packaging so I cant read if it say anything about pregnancy! I am 8 weeks if that's helpful,

Thanks ladies! xxx

I have the same issue, so I know how you feel. I don't know about Sudafed , but I think decongestant nasal spray is a no, specially during the 1st trimester (otherwise, my doctor would have prescribed that to me... I am stuffed also). Also decongestant spray cannot be use for long period of time, otherwise you may develop an addition to it.

I was advised by my dr that viks nasal spray was fine... and i used it every night.. caused nose bleeds but relieved the problem long enough for me to fall asleep..onlyto wake up again and having to give my nose another spray.

I don't know about other sprays but I use a saline solution - it's perfectly safe and non-addictive, it's just salt water. You might want to try that?

At the beginning of my pregnancy I had severe sinusitis (and before I knew I was pregnant) and the doctor prescribed me antibiotics, nasal spray and codeine for the headaches. I then found out I was pregnant a week later and he absolutely assured me everything I had taken was ok for the baby. I had been taking sudafed nasal spray and sudafed tablets.

When I found out I was pregnant I bought a neti-pot and used that and its a lifesaver.

OK thank you all! Thanks for all the info, I knew I would get a good answer here rather than the dreaded 'google' which would probably tell me my arm would fall off if I used it!

I will stick to Olbas oil or Karvol for the time being and if it gets worse speak to my GP, thank you!! xxx
