When are you planning on telling people?

I'm 4+3 with #1, we were thinking of telling our parents soon, but now I am not sure... part of me likes it being our secret, but then the part of me that doesn't think it is actually real is thinking perhaps telling our parents would make it more real IYSWIM.

When are you planning on telling people? (people being parents.. not random people on the street...)

I told my mum and dad (oh's are dead) at about 5 weeks. I think my mum suspected anyway by we are quite close and I felt guilty about sneeking off to the hospital and not telling them.

Even if something had gone wrong (or does go wrong) we would be telling them that anyway.

Plus my mum has started a big piggy bank where everyone is putting money they would have otherwise spend on xmas pressies into the piggy bank ( very very very kind I know!!).

Thanks, we are really close family, I am finding it quite hard speaking to mum on the phone at the moment, I am sure she suspects something is going on... Probably not expecting this though! And you're right, if something did go wrong that would be a worse thing to have to tell them if they didn't already know, the shock would be worse.

Now DH is held up at work I can't help but wonder if it is the universe telling us not to tell. AAArgh! I'm hopeless!

Wow, bet that was exciting. Were people shocked or expecting it?

I'm early on at the moment (4+5) so not just yet, tempting as it is. I've booked at early scan for 7 wks, which will fall a few days before I go to see my family for Christmas. If all is as it should be we'll tell them then, then the famil-in-law the following weekend when we see them. We'll start telling close friends over the Christmas period as well if all is well.

In terms of work/the wider circle we'll prob wait until 12 wks. If I start getting quite poorly then I might have to tell select people at work earlier.

I'm getting so impatent though! A colleague is pregnant too, about 8 wks ahead of me. I'm finding it really hard not saying anything when chatting babies with her and my other colleagues as we're quite a small department.

We told our parents at 4 weeks, a couple of close friends at around 6 weeks and I told my boss today because I have to get away for yet another appointment this week! I was so nervous about telling her but she was so delighted for us and is now totally looking after me!! It's like having my mum at work! When I took some work up to her this afternoon she told me I've to email her instead and she will come to me, as we can't have me running up and down the stairs all the time! Very sweet. I knew she'd be happy for us but she has been even lovlier than I expected. She told me she wishes her son would get on and make her a granny

Today I made it official on Facebook, but my immediate family was told sooner and first because I MCd last year, and just in case it happened again I wanted the support!
