I just asked my GP about it and he said that I am entilted to it if I would like it.

I am very mixed about it. I have asked family opinion and some say yes and others say no. It is very hard to know what is best

Hi there - I posted a thread on exactly this last week. It is hard to decide, and I'm a scientist...

In essence there is only one change in this vaccine compared to the regular flu vaccine. However as someone pointed out, the regular flu vaccine does change too in order to keep up with seasonal changes in the flu virus. There have been no reported issues directly related to the regular flu vaccine with either pregnant ladies or their babies.

I guess everyone has to do their own assessment of risks and make their own balanced decision. Some people are absolutely sure they don't want it, and that's their right. But for others the fear of swine flu might make someone else choose to have it. I really understand those with other kids for example, wanting to have the vaccine. Same if I looked after someone elderly or ill.

I've actually decided to have it in the end, and I don't have any other children or look after anyone else. I'm worried swine flu will get worse as the weather gets colder. It's been fairly mild until this week so I'm interested to see what happens to the number of cases. It's an informed but personal choice. I just want to stop stressing about the whole thing and for me and baby the benefit of having one less stress outweighs what I believe to be a pretty low risk of any complications from the jab. I'm going to wait until I'm about 14 weeks however.

Wouldn't want to try and persuade anyone either way, but I would suggest weighing up your personal pro's and con's in order to make a decision.

xx

I agree with your sentiments meoldy74 - its an entirely personal choice. I am going to talk to my dr about it tomorrow but i am fairly certain i am going to have it. I work for the nhs and whilst my patients are not necessarily physically ill my clinics are in health centres and i feel i am at high risk of getting it. Having said that my sil has chosen not to have it and i totally respect that decision. Its not an easy choice, if you have a decent GP they will help you make your mind up.
