If you think quitting smoking is simple you are incredibly uninformed. It has been proven to be harder to quit than many strong drugs.

if it was an old wives tale why have the government researched it really a glass of wine is 3 units see below from nhs website there has also been further research of any alcohol in pregnancy and its effects even a small amount of alcohol can put a massive strain on your babies liver, alcohol is a drug and toxcin at the end of the day

"When you drink, alcohol passes from your blood, through the placenta, to your baby. A baby's liver is one of the last organs to develop fully and does not mature until the latter half of pregnancy. Therefore, your baby cannot process alcohol as well as you can, and is exposed to greater amounts of alcohol for longer periods of time."

wow, I was going to refrain from saying something, but I can't help myself! Yes it's sad when you see some women absuing their bodies during pregnancy, by which I mean the hardcore couldn't give a toss drug takers, drinkers etc. Saying that I wouldn't wish miscarriage on ANY woman, they have to deal with the reality that their actions would have been contributory, but surely thats enough punishment without people looking down their noses at these people who surely require help with their addictions and lifestyle choices?
I agree that if one of us would like a small tipple on a special ocassion, or have done really well and cut down the fags, really don't deserve the very cutting comments to made. We're all on this forum because we love our little beans soo much, we all have that in common, and are looking for SUPPORT not JUDGEMENT so I don't see the need for such an insensitve and obviously provoking post, it's almost like you were looking for an arguement??!!
Polo princess, maybe this post needs to be locked before too may people get upset and offended??

I know what you mean and I know you meant well in your post! The sad thing is that unfortunately some women will lose babies through absolutely no fault of their own and I do agree that we all have a responsibility to minimise any risks! We all want the same thing at end of the day!!! A lovely healthy baby!

Hugs! X

So agreeksmom - because you eat junk food, how would you feel if I said there's plenty of OTHER food out there, why don't you eat that?
like you say, you have cut down! what if women who drink have simply cut down! that is their choice.
people can't dictate what others do, christ could you imagine if we all lived life like that.
open your eyes and look around, there are people out there doing WORSE things to their bodies, with or without pregnancy.

have a glass of wine isn't going to kill you - and most probably won't harm the baby. i have suffered a mc, and i did everything by the book? am i to blame myself for the miscarraige? because i MUST have done something wrong? if i have a glass of wine at christmas, you have no sympathy for me, because i drank?

Alcohol in a foetus has a toxic effect on developing cells and organs, especially in the brain, where it kills cells?

First trimester (months 0-3):

* Damage to developing organs and nervous system, resulting in later mental and physical problems
* Major structural abnormalities
* Spontaneous miscarriage
