I am now a week late, and have only BFN's to show for it! Many people have suggested I get a blood test at the docs, which I may do in a week or so if AF hasn't arrived. Can anyone share their experiences of a BFP through a blood test? Thanks! x

I didn't get my BFP until I was 13 days late. At 5 days late I had a blood test which came back negative. After I got my BFP I had bloods done again and got my positive blood. So I figure I ovlulated a couple of weeks later than normal despite always being regular up to that month.

I had to go into the epu when i had just got a bfp, i used a 10miu at home, so it was showing up faintly, but i tested negative on the hospitals urine test, so they took my bloods and my levels were actually 224! My sample was just so diluted it wasn't coming up!
I would definately try and get a blood test done at a week late, it'll efinately tell you one way or another!

mine was just a couple days ago. I called and told them I had a positive HPT and asked if they could run my blood levels , they know me well and know i have a history of miscarriage. they got me in to see the nurse practioner within hours. They made me do a urine test there first, I do not think they would of run my blood if i had not tested positive since i was not even late yet. urine came back positive they took blood and i found out my levels late that after noon.. my numbers were 147i/ul though they did not take time to tell me if that was good or bad. they said i could either come back wendesday which it today or wait till friday since thursday is thanksgiving.... i picked today, I had a 9 am appointment to be sure the numbers are rising.. they have not gotten back to me yet..

My OBGYN (who I love) didn't do blood work. I got positive urine in her office, so she just sent me for a US to confirm the pregnancy. Which was much better than bloodwork!

Now, instead of bloodwork, I'm just going for another scan at 8 wks, since HCG isn't a problem, as when I had MMC my levels were over 100k miu. The heart was more of a concern.

As far as not showing up on a HPT, it's definitely not common. If you have kidney issues or something like that, your kidneys may not be processing the HCG correctly. Some women don't show up on HPTs, but they're the minority, not the majority.

Last PG, I didn't show up on a HPT until I was 2 weeks+ late. This time, I showed up faintly at 9 DPO. Got a strong line at 10. It's different with every pregnancy, depending on ovulation and implantation.

If you were tracking ovulation, or even if you weren't, definitely get bloodwork. Make sure you get quantitative (how much miu/hcg) and not qualitative (tests at 25 miu/hcg, like a HPT with a yes/no answer.)

If that is negative, you likely had an anovulatory cycle. The stress of wondering if you're pregnant may be delaying your period.

Call your GP tomorrow, and get in there! Ask for blood work if they do not offer it. Some doctors are very skeptical after negative urine tests, esp if they're done in office.

I had negative HPTs but was just feeling a bit run down, and kinda crappy. At 5 days late I went to the doc about it. He ordered bloods, including pregnancy (because I mentioned we were trying). I was pretty surprised when he called the next day to confirm it was positive!
Finally got a positive HPT when 8 days late.

I went and had bloods done yesterday. I rang myself and made the appointment. I have a 9 month old but have had an ectopic and MC before having her. They didn't question it, they just booked me in.

I saw my doc before the appointment and i told her i was having bloods done, and she was fine about it, although the nurse did ask me who had requested it and i said me! I told her the doc was fine about it, and that i was bookd for an early scan at 6 weeks and didnot want to waste the time of the girls at the EPAU if my levels were not at a good number!

my hcg was a 9 on the 20th which for me would have been 9 days past ovulation I don't go in again until wednesday but I'll let you know how it doubled
